Jo-Ann and I picked up the kids and headed over to the Windsor Elvis Festival this past weekend. Our brother Rick was in the competition for the Non-Pro Vegas category. He didn't win but got some solid marks from the judges. And his picture in the Star (A2 Saturday) and on their website.

Jo-Ann goes back to work


It's only for today, and she's not waitressing, but still, she's happy to be back at Malic's Delicatessen. Nimer called my sister up last week and asked if she could help out on St. Patrick's Day, working the till and counter. The worst thing about getting chemotherapy, she says, is not having a job.

Yaya


Isabelle's mom died on Thursday, 84 years old. Affectionately known as Yaya to Olivia and Julie, Josefa was Spanish, although she was born in France. She struggled to speak English but understood it far more than she let on.

Crossing Over


Last Sunday morning Zonk and I went across the river for the unveiling of Seymour's tombstone. We made it about three quarters over the Ambassador Bridge before the traffic backed up. While waiting for our turn at U.S. customs and immigration I mentioned that I had finished reading Hitchens' God is not Great.

Chris Bearchell Memorial in Toronto


I'm about to leave for Toronto for tonight's memorial celebration of Chris's life and work. Appropriately it's being held from 7:30 to 10 pm in the 519 Church St. Community Centre, a place where Chris's voice was often heard during her two decade stay in the city.
