New Music, Old People. Good Mix?

I remember thinking how lame it seemed when my parents, or anybody else over the age of say, 25, took a liking to whatever (what I thought was) avant garde music I happened to be listening to at the time.

Now that I fit the over (seriously over) 25 description...

And I listen to Trance and Techno and Trip Hop and House.

Despite all the profanity and drug references, I'm really digging Missy 'Misdemeanor' Elliot's "Bomb Intro/Pass the Dutch" from her CD "This Is Not a Test!". It's probably the first Rap I've enjoyed since Public Enemy's "Fear of a Black Planet". It sneaks into the movie "Mean Girls" (save your $$), but didn't make it onto the soundtrack. Maybe it's just Timbaland's production, I don't know.

I went to both Area:One and Area:2 festivals in Detroit a few years ago, and my favorite spot was the DJ tent. My friend Jeff and I were probably the oldest people in there most of the time, and we still had a TON of fun. Rinocerose, DJ Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox, Kevin Saunderson, The Orb, The Roots, Dieselboy... whoa!

BTW: Sasha is going to be in Chicago 6/17 at the Sound-Bar. I guess I draw the line at clubs.

Maybe if I danced better, I'd be less intimidated (and a lot less self-conscious!)

So. If an old guy like me is seriously into newer music, does that make the music less cool? Or does that mean I'm more cool than I thought?

Hell, cool is probably such an un-cool phrase nowadays. Dope maybe?

LOLOLOLOL!
