Two weeks later we finally had enough projects done in Pt. Angeles to get underway. All new rigging, new winch stands, and a myriad of small but vital projects were good enuf! Dawn and Steve Puryear came over to help us out and haul back a trunk load of belongings that just wouldn't fit. Thanks to everyone both in Des Moines and Pt. Angeles who gave us support when it looked like we wouldn't get outta here. Finally by the end of August we were off and running with the cruisers gathered in Pt. A!

| okay, so the first night out on the ocean was a wild ride! With the main double reefed and the staysail, we still were doing 5.8 to 6.2 knots all night long. By sunrise we were 50 nm off shore, having dodged freighters , cruise ships and trawlers all night long. The waves didn't look so big at night, but come sunrise we were surfing down the front of 12-18' waves. YEEEHAAAWWW! |

Nels and our neice, Breanne helped us on the trek north to the San Juans. Then we traded the girls for Brandon and our nephew Andrew for a drift through the San Juans. Everyone was good sports given that we through most of our stuff and most of the projects in the night before we left. "Honey, could you move the solar panel so I can reach the stove?'" . Goodbye hugs and kisses were hard, but we know they are great 'kids' and we look forward to sharing new places for family gatherings.
