Nuts and Bolts: The best writing skills site I have found on the web, nutsandbolts covers all the key concepts that appear in the UC Subject A scoring guide and in the UCR 1A-1B-1C grading rubrics. This site provides concise alternative explanations and useful examples. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED (and sometimes required). Nuts and Bolts also has a useful guide to MLA bibliographic and citation guidelines.

Looking for Grammar Help? Try one or more of these sites:

St. Martin's Guide: 1A-1B-1C students should try the St. Martin's Writing Guide web page. The "Excercises" section has grammar and usage exercises keyed to the Handbook codes in the book: http://www.bedfordstmartins.com/theguide/

Darling’s Guide to Grammar: Exercises: explanations, quizzes, etc. Highly recommended!!

Purdue University Writing Center Site: The grandmother of all writing sites. Very good grammar and style explanation worksheets.
