Course Description (from UCR Catalog)
A four unit course requiring extra
writing and rewriting from students, English 5 examines
elements of academic argument in the context of major
conflicting texts. Particular attention is given to
identifying, analyzing, and framing debatable questions
and issues, finding and developing appropriate, persuasive
arguments, and tapping the syntactic resources of standard
English. The course includes extensive readings and
numerous writing assignments along with formal presentations.
