I guess Bush thinks spreading this around will make something beautiful
grow
Thus, the Party betrays and vilifies every
principle for which the Socialist movement originally stood, and it chooses to
do so in the name of Socialism.

1984.
I didn't watch the inaugural speech and have no
desire to do a line-by-line analysis of the bullshit contained therein. (I
simply take it as a given that everything Bush's speechwriters tell him to say
is an utter lie, including the articles and prepositions.) I do find it ironic
though that Bush just spent $40 million to turn Pennsylvania Avenue into an
armed fortress in order to tell us about his wish to spread freedom around the
world. Sadly, I'm sure this is what freedom looks like to George W. Bush, which
may explain why he still insists that Iraq is going swimmingly.
And don't worry China. George W.
Bush certainly wasn't threatening to spread freedom to you. I mean, if you guys
had a democracy, you just might allow unions and then where would Wal-Mart be?
And Russia, you're okay, because George W. Bush looked into your dictator's
heart and saw a good soul. (Besides, Bush has modeled much of his statecraft on
the Putin model, and it wouldn't do for him to overturn his role model. Did
Hitler attack Mussolini? Did Mao go after Stalin?) North Korea will be safe as
long as they continue to act crazy, and the Saudis can go right on pumping oil,
and the Pakistanis can continue building nuclear weapons and solidifying their
wonderful junta. None of Bush's rhetoric means anything to any country whose
name doesn't begin with the letters IRA-. And even then, all Bush will do is
invent some crisis in IRA- so he can kill a buttload of people, then allow the
place to fall into civil war because he couldn't be bothered to
plan.Among Bush's many, many, many
flaws is that he seems to think that caring about something means repeating over
and over that you care about something. Of course it doesn't. Actual caring
involves work and sacrifice. It means you go out of your way for whatever it is
you claim interest in. To me, hearing George Bush tell me he cares about freedom
is like hearing Weyerhauser tell me about its commitment to preserving forests
or seeing an ad from Chevron telling me about their commitment to clean air and
water. It's all crap. Occasionally
well-written crap, but crap nonetheless.
UPDATE 1/22/05: Gee, that was fast.
It
sometimes take them a whole week to reverse themselves while pretending they
didn't reverse themselves. Just remember, gang. Oceania was always at
war with Eastasia, since the beginning of your life, since the beginning of the
Party, always the same war without end.
