Is your child reluctant to wear a hat when it is frigid? I hope to help with this by knitting a custom hat for each student in my class as a little holiday gift. Each student signed up for colors and a style they would like and they seem pretty excited about them. Keep your fingers crossed!

This month we are learning about the forces of nature. We will begin our weather unit and will be conducting several experiments. Students will continue to study weather for the remainder of the year.

We are working on geometry in math. Measuring angles and drawing and labeling rays, line segments and lines is being taught in class. Students seem to be enjoying this unit. Another math night is coming up for multiplication algorithms. I will keep you posted!

Class book

We have a wonderful addition to our classroom library. Thanks to Tom's family, we have a hard bound book starring Shelly (our turtle) and all of her classmates! What an honor. Thank you so much for putting your time and effort into a great project Mrs. Michnovich!

December 19th is our last day of school for 2008. I am happy to send home activities and other learning opportunities for students to prevent academic regression (or complaints of boredom) over Winter Break. If there is something specific that you would like to support your student or you would like ideas, click on the email link above and let me know. CSAP begins in February!

Word Work is an important part of our reading and writing. The words we are working on for the week of December 8th contain multiple meanings. The words for this week are:

bank bowl jerky palm prune
spring stern tire roll toast

The words for the week of December 15th contain homonyms. Homonyms are words that sound alike, but are different in spelling and meaning. The words include:

hair and hare mall and maul
rays and raise paws and pause
sea and see
