THE GOAT VETERINARY SOCIETY

This website is updated as often as possible BUT you should always check the DEFRA site immediately before animal movements or vaccination.

GVS UPDATE  June 26th 2009

First of all, thank-you very much for so many well reasoned responses to my initial draft on identification of goats.

It would not be possible to reconcile all the views expressed,  they were very varied, and it is clear that it  is very much a case of one mans meat being another man’s poison.

To be realistic, we cannot expect to get away from some sort of dual I/d, and we did not  feel it appropriate as a veterinary society, to comment on the administration aspect of the consultation, so we have opted to concentrate on practical aspects.

I think the best chance of being listened to is by concentrating on the relevant differences between goats and sheep, which is part of a wider issue of trying to get them separated in the political psyche of the EU.  We can now only wait and see, and if we are forced down a road which causes problems, bombard  “Them” with the evidence.
