Consultation
We have received a circular asking for help in TSE genetics research in goats.
Not all offers of participation will be followed up as Kelly Ryan, who is running the project, is seeking to try to get as broad a spread of breeds as possible within the available research budget, so volunteers from breeds that are small in number might be particularly welcome. I hope Kelly will be able to come to GVS to report the findings in due course!!.
(Some of you will already have received this request by e-mail. You do not need to reply twice.)
EU Goat-Sample request.
" I am currently working at the Roslin Institute on a project studying goat TSE diagnosis and susceptibility. We are one of ten EU based partners. As part of the project we are carrying out a survey of the PrP gene in British goats. We hope to determine the influence of PrP genotype on susceptibility of goats to TSEs, in particular scrapie and BSE
We are looking for more samples for our study so we have data which gives the most accurate representation of the British Goat population. If any one wishes to take part, we will meet the costs for a vet to visit their farm to take a blood sample, and the costs of having it delivered to us. We would be grateful for information regarding breed, age, and sex.
All information would be completely confidential. We would be happy to report back anything of interest, and would keep people updated on the progress of the project if desired. I am happy to answer any queries. Thank-you for your consideration.
