Renovation and Preservation Project
July 2008 Update
We are pleased to advise everyone that work is progressing and we have been able to do some remedial work to the floor to allow secure continuation of work whist providing a safe walk area.
Since the last update issued in April 2008 I list below today’s position.
Where have we got to with the total project:-
- Phase 1 of the project is now complete on time and on budget.
- Initial meetings with our church architects have been held to plan and produce an outline specification for Phase 2 and Phase 3 work. This will allow faculties to be applied for from DAC and in parallel with this major funders to be approached.
- Donations continue to be received for the restoration work and monies raised exceeds £38,000.00. We consider this a good rate of progress towards our total estimated project cost of £300,000.00
- Ideas from the suggestion box are being worked through for fund raising with significant success. St Mary’s Newent Cookbook continues to be sold and in February we were entertained in church by “Beyond the Blue” a team of local musicians assembled by Paul Wirth. who played a varied assortment of music from Folk to Rock & Roll. It was pleasing to see about 100 people enjoying the concert which raised about £450,many commenting “when is the next one?”.
- The programme of events will continue to be developed for 2008, and they can be found in the Activities Diary which Carol holds in the office. We have planned the following events which are in the Diary; Forest of Dean Male Voice Choir, West Midlands Salvation Army Band and Choir, Ballroom Dance, Beetle Drive with “St Mary’s Beatles Singers”, and so on. .
- It is intended to carry on with minor project work where money is available for it. One such item is of course the budgeted and planned upgraded sound and AV system.
- An information board area will be created to allow visitors to view the excellent work being done by junior church and view project status as well as outreach information.
- We are applying for planning permission to locate a storage container on the Church car park, necessary for the project.
- Please look at our web site which is continually updated with events information at www.beatthebeetle.co.uk. It creates much interest and publicity country wide.
Keep your suggestions coming in so we can keep our events programme rolling.-
If you have any specific questions or issues please do discuss them with me.
Your support to date is very much appreciated and we ask for your continued prayers.
