jeremy fernsler : pinhole photography
18 - july - 2005
small update.
I've widened the aspect on my
pinhole and I'm loving the extra width and the
expected vignetting. these are from all over the
place, really - enjoy!

a couple weeks
ago I walked from the brooklyn side
of the manhattan bridge up to my workplace in midtown.
I took a couple cameras along and made a few photos -
here are some mixed in with more from coney island.

finally! I have
processed some pinhole photos. not from
my altoids cases, I still have not reloaded those. however
for christmas I did receive a beautiful zero 69 pinhole camera.
it's an amazing looking camera, and as it turns out takes
some fantastic photos. hopefully now that the sun is becoming
a bit more reliable, the pinholes and holgas will start
flowing once again.

so, I haven't
done much with the pinholes since my first
run at them. I've been distracted with 35mm photography
with my canon SLR. even my holga time has greatly
diminished. so, in trying to re-capture some of that this
evening I re-made a couple of my pinholes. upon closer
examination I determined that a few of my pinholes were
nearly .5mm in diameter. this is far to wide for a sharp image
in an altoids tin. my new pinholes are around .2 - .25mm
and should render a much nicer image.
on another note while I was creating my pinholes I was
trying to think of a way to test its circular-ness. I do not
own an enlarger so I couldn't check it that way. what I
decided to do was shine and LED flashlight through the hole
to see if that would render anything onto a white wall. what
I got was pretty interesting (to me at least), an image of
the inside of the LED projected through the pinhole. you
can clearly see the semiconductor and contacts within
the bulb. see the pic:

these are my
very first pinhole photos. I took these with
my altoid pinhole cameras. I'm just happy something showed
up on the film. They aren't very sharp and the contrast is
a bit low and actually, they were quite over exposed. So these
are all things I plan on working on a bit more.
nothing here
yet. still building cameras. some tins are
collected and some holes are cut, but there is more to do.
