Goodbye Merida, Hello Bugaloo
Well first Vicky's bike was stolen. So we replaced
it with an electric bike (bugaloo). And then the next day my bike (Merida) was
stolen. Totally sucks. I've been enjoying Vicky's bugaloo so much that I was
planning on splurging for one myself. But now without a bike, it seems hard for
me to get both, and I'm not sure I can live on just Bugaloo. Its kind of the
equivalent in Shanghai of having a really nice car. So it means there are just
some places you don't want to take Bugaloo. (if you ever wanna see Bugaloo
again).
But I'm really glad that I finally convinced
Vicky to go for the electric bike. She has wanted one for a while, but as usual
is very frugal. She finally caved in after her bike was stolen and I told her
that she probably wouldn't have enough chance to try out the electric bike in
such a nice flat city as Shanghai. Then I explained how expensive Vespas
are.The thing is quite alot of fun. Its
got a nice horn that I like to use as much as possible. (sweet revenge for all
the scooters that have honked at me when on Merida) It goes about 20 mph (but I
suspect there is a governor in there that can be disabled). And even though its
not legal, we have been riding around lately both on it at the same time. Its
the vehicle of choice for our late night dinners out of the apartment. I am
seriously considering shipping a pair of these suckers back to the US. If only
the cost wasn't measured in bureaucracy and
paperwork.
