The Peterson Family:
We are a family of five living in the Bay Area in California. Our names are Donna, Jerry, Adam, Samantha, and Julia. We also have a 13-year-old Siberian husky named Misha. We are members of Temple Beth Am in Los Altos Hills, CA. As part of our home schooling regime we have traveled throughout the U.S. and parts of Europe. It is partly as a result of our travel experiences that we began to realize how similar young kids around the world seem to be. As part of CHUMS, our family’s goal is to help educate other kids on how much children of all faiths have in common. We would like people to understand that it is the morals and values that we embrace and the spirit in which we demonstrate those values that is the focus of our group. We believe this should be the focus of all religions. It is our vision that CHUMS along with other groups like ours will help teach children of all faiths around the world that there are alternatives to hate. We hope that by demonstrating what kids of different faiths can do when they work together we can encourage other kids and other families to come together in a similar way and do their part to repair the world. Now for a few words from the Peterson CHUMS.

My name is Julia. I am ten years old and I have an identical twin, Samantha. I like tennis, swimming, basketball, and karate. I am almost a black belt. My favorite pastimes are reading and playing computer games. I hope that someday this group will become bigger. Our group’s goal is to educate other kids on different religions so that they can see how similar we all are. Maybe then today’s kids can learn to grow up without hating. |

Hi, I'm Samantha. I am ten years old and have an identical twin, Julia. My favorite sport is tennis, but I like most other sports. I am almost a black belt in Karate. I also love to read. I hope that this group will become bigger, and I also hope that we will be on TV some day to communicate our ideas. Eventually, I hope that this group along with other groups will help bring peace. |

My name is Adam. I’m eleven years old. I love golf, and I also like to swim. I am a black belt in Karate, which is another one of my favorite sports. My favorite pastime is definitely playing on the computer, though I love to read and write short stories. I hope that our group can educate kids of different religions, and, with the help of other groups like ours, stop hate all together. |

We are a Muslim family of Indian and Pakistani background. We are five people; Amer, Anees, Mustafa, Seher and Zaineb. We have two cats, Titan and Callisto. Our family likes to go camping, swimming, watch movies and when we can, look out into the night sky. (Can you tell by the name of our cats?) We have also been attending the Muslim Youth Camp for the last three years.
Through CHUMS we hope to learn about other religions especially Judaism and Christianity. We want to learn what are the similarities. We hope to help others understand each other and make the world a better place.

Seher Siddiqee (Saa – har)
I am ten years old. I have an older brother and younger sister. I like to do art. I’ve been oil painting since Nov. 1999. I also like to play with my sister and go swimming. At school, I like to write and do math. I hope to learn about other religions so that I can have a better understanding of others. I hope CHUMS can help others in the world also to understand so there isn’t so much hatred.

Mustafa Siddiqee (Mus – taa- fa)
I am 11 years old. I have two younger sisters. My favorite pastimes are reading, writing and playing on the computer. I’ve been playing the violin for the last three years. I hope to gain knowledge of other religions and I hope CHUMS’ effort in raising money for charities has an effect on those who receive it.

Zaineb Siddiqee (Zay – nub)
I am 5 years old and the youngest member of CHUMS. I like to play with our cats, play with my sister, swim and ride my bike. I can’t wait to start Kindergarten this fall. I like to help sell cards. In fact, I am the “secret weapon”.

We are a Christian family of four who are active members of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Palo Alto, CA. Both Steve and Madeleine have been Elders in the Church and Madeleine is currently a Sunday School Teacher. Katie and Matthew were both Baptised at Covenant and last year Katie was Confirmed. We enjoy spending time as a family cross country skiing, playing tennis, traveling and watching movies. We like the community service aspect of CHUMS and being able to help others through our efforts. We are also enjoying learning about the lives and faiths of other families.

Katie Fackler: I am 13 years old. I have one younger brother. I do a lot of singing and I also play the piano. I play tennis and soccer. In the fall I’m starting field hockey, salsa dancing and baton twirling. I also enjoy hanging out with my friends, shopping and taking up the phone line. I hope that we can expand CHUMS and help each of our religions learn more about the others.

Matthew Fackler: Hello my name is Matthew Fackler and I am 9 years old. I like almost every sport you can name. Some of my favorite sports are Lacrosse, Street Hockey, Flag Football, Karate and Basketball. I like to hang sports pictures on my wall. I have a 13 year old sister named Katie. I like to play computer games with her. My favorite day of the year is Christmas. I hope that CHUMS is able to help many people.
