Revised Anachronism FAQ
Updated: 3-20-2006
Action
How many times per turn can I use an 'Action' ability of a card?
-Unless the ability specifies
a restriction like 'once per round' or 'once per game',
you may use these abilities as often as you have actions to
spend. Cards like Achilles, Shuriken and Pugio are designed to be able
to be used multiple times each turn.
Adjacent
What spaces are 'adjacent' to my warrior?
-Any of the eight spaces next
to your warrior, e.g. those that share a side or corner
with your warrior's space, are adjacent to your warrior. Adjacency does
not 'loop' from one side of the arena to the other.
Since my warrior is not adjacent to itself, does it take one damage
when I reveal Skegox Francisca? Can I attack myself with the Shuriken?
-No on both counts. Your warrior's space is not considered to be
'adjacent' or 'not adjacent' to itself.

Alfred the Great
If I use Alfred the Great
on an ability that gives a variable attack roll bonus,
what happens?
-The entire attack roll bonus
is 'turned off' and replaced with a constant '+1 to defense rolls'
bonus. It doesn't matter when, how, or how large the attack roll bonus
was.
If I am playing Alfred the Great and I name
Bishamon-Ten's ability when using Alfred's ability, will that also turn
off the attack bonus for my opponent?
-Alfred turns off the entire effect that would provide an attack roll
bonus to replace it with a defense roll bonus. So yes, you would be
able to deny your opponent the bonus from Bishamon-Ten.
All Copies
See
Zeus
Ally and Allies
Are 'Ally' and 'Allies' equivalent?
-Yes. In pevious sets, we used the correct plurality based on the
number of individuals depicted by the card. In Set 4, since we key card
abilities off of the trait, we decided to use only one trait to cover
all cases for consistency from here forward.
Amazonia
Can Amazonia attack with each of her weapons on each of her turns?
Can she use two weapons of the same name?
-Amazonia can attack once wit
each of her weapons on each of her turns. Her ability allows you to
have 2 weapons in play, but you must still abide by the rules that
state that you can only use one copy of each card and no more than 2
hands worth of cards.
Alarich
For Alarich's ability, what is determined as using an ability on
a Roman card in cases such as, say, Mars or Amazonia?
-Whenever the ability is used, Alarich will punish the user.
So, whenever a player gains a bonus from Mars, or when Amazonia reveals
a second or greater weapon.
Constant abilities are 'used' whenever their effects come into play.
Alexander III of Macedon
Does Alexander III of Macedon combo with Jupiter?
-Alexander III of Macedon guarantees that you will take the first turn
in each round, but does ot guarantee that you ill win initiative. You
do not automatically benefit from Jupiter with Alexander III of
Macedon.
If both players are playing Alexander III of Macedon, who takes the
first action
each round?
-Since both players are using
the same warrior, this card creates a bit of a connundrum.
In this case, the player that loses initiative would take one damage
from their card ability. At this point, bth warriors are trying to take
the first turn in the round. For cases lke this,
as with other ties, players use experience, followed by a roll
-off with no modifiers, to break the tie.
How does Alexander III of Macedon interact with
Chivalry?
-If you lose initiatlive, there's no conflict - Chivalry isn't
triggered, and Alexander deals a damage to himslef and takes the first
turn.
If Alexander does win initiative, you may choose to go second
and gain the bonus, but then Alexander's ability will override your
choice, and you'll take the first turn anyway. Note that you will still
have the bonus granted by Chivalry in this case.
Allt A'Bhonnaich
Allt A'Bhonnaich says that opponents cards cannot prevent me from
using my card abilities. Exactly what card abilities are preveted by
this card?
-Any card effect that prevents n ability from being used (like
Khepresh: 'Opposing warriors may not use abilities on inspiration
cards.'), or those that cause one of your abilities to have no effect
(like Zeus: 'That ability has no effect that round.') are stopped by
Allt A'Bhonnaich.
Even abilities that 'shield' certain game actions from effect by card
abilities (Vercigetorix: 'Defense rolls cannot be modified.' or
Prosveschenniy Absolutism: 'Dice and rolls are not affected by...') are
stopped by Allt A'Bhonnaich.
In short, if you have Allt A'Bhonnaich in play, your abilities will
always wrk.
There is an interesting case where both players have a copy of Allt
A'Bhonnaich in play; each would contradict the other directly. In this
case, we use the same rule we do for all other conflicting replacement
abilities: The active player (or winner of initiative outside of turns)
has precedence.
Arcabuz
If I have Arcabuz in play, do I still need to pay an additional
action
if a card ability lets me make an immediate attack with my weapon?
-Yes; you always must pay one additional action to attack with the
Arcabuz.
If you use a card ability to create an immediate attack on your turn,
you
must pay one action to satisfy the card's extra cost.
If you use a card ability to make an immedate attack outside of your
turn,
that attack cannot be made with the Arcabuz, since you cannot spend
speed
to take actions or pay action costs outside of your turn.
Armor
Can I use 2 or more armor
cards as long as they all have diiferent body location
traits (eg. Torso, Head, Legs, Arms)?
-No. You may only have one armor card, regardless of the location that
the armor card occupies. These body location tratis may appear on
non-armor cards. You may not use a Head Special card and a Head Armor
card at the
same time, for example.
Attacks
When card abilities give extra attacks, they can have several
different clauses to describe how those attacks are made. What are all
of these, and what do they mean?
-Card abilities that allow extra attacks that specify 'basic' or
'weapon' attacks only allow attacks of that kind.
-If a card ability specifically creates an attack with a weapon,
this attack does not count against the 'one attack with a weapon per
turn' restriction.
-Card abilities that create an attack 'immediately' do not cost an
additional action to use.
-Card abilities that create an attack made 'at +X' can not get bonuses
or negative modifiers to that attack roll.
-Card abilities that create an attack 'if possible' restict the free
attack to the appropriate attack grid and use all of the normal
modifiers for an attack made using that attack grid.
Attack Grid(s)
What effect does my warrior's attack grid have when I am being
attacked?
-None. Only the attacker's attack grid is ever considered when an
attack is made.
See also Elhaz Rune
See also Marcus Claudius Marcellus
Atilla The Hun
Does Atilla the Hun give his future attacks a bonus each time he
himself attack, or when another warrior attacks?
-Both. Any attack by any warrior increases Atilla's bonus for future
attacks.
Behind
Which spaces are 'directly or diagonally behind' my warrior? Which
are 'next to' my
warrior?
-'Next to' and 'adjacent' are
the same term, in fact, 'next to' is a translated term
used in place of 'adjacent'. The spaces 'directly and diagonally
behind' your warrior are those that are adjacent to, but behind your
warrior. If your warrior were the center of a compass, these spaces
would be SW, S and SE.

|_|^|_|

Beowulf
Does Beowulf's penalty apply if I move from one space in Beowulf's
attack grid to another on my turn?
-Yes. Whenever you move out of any space in any of Beowulf's attack
grids on your turn, regardless of where you are moving to or what card
allows the movement, you will incur Beowulf's penalty. If the movement
is allowed as part of a card ability, you must still expend an action
to fill the 'cost' created by Beowulf's ability.
Thus, Nakano Takeko or a similar card's ability would cost an action if
affected by beowulf, and Uma's 'Action' ability would cost an extra
action for each space in any of Beowulf's attack grids that you left in
the course of performing the action. Cards that allow you to move as
Reveal or 'at the start of the round', or those that allow you to move
on another player's turn (like Kimono) are unaffected by Beowulf. If
you do not have an extra action to spend when Beowulf forces you to,
you cannot move out of the space you are in. Moving out of a space that
is in more than one of Beowulf's attack grids does not incur additional
penalties. These same principles apply to Grendel (for attacking)
as well.
Berserkerganger
Does Berserkerganger damage my warrior every time I attack? What if
I miss or defeat my opponent?
-Berserkerganger deals its damage after an attack is made, regardless
of the outcome of
the attack. You will take damage if you attack and miss. If your attack
defeats your opponent, you will win the game before berserkerganger
damages you.
Blossious of Cumae
Please help me understand
Blossious of Cumae.
-Starting with the round that
you reveal it, and for each round thereafter that it
remains in play, Blossius will cause the turn order to be
reversed, with the player that revealed the lowest initiative for that
turn playing first. Ties in initiative (and play order for the fifth
round) are still broken by experience. Since
Blossius is not a Reveal or 'At start of the round' ability, it comes
into effect as soon as it is face up. This is why it works the round
it is revealed. This also means that if you reveal another Inspiration
card, Blossius will affect the Initiative for that round before you
have to choose which inspiration to discard.
Two copies of blossius in play
at once do not cancel each other out.

Bokken
There has been some confusion about the Bokken. I heard that there
may be some errata or other change to the card. Can you clarify how it
works?
-Here is how the Bokken works:
"Precision: Once per turn, you
may re -roll one die on an attack roll."
1) Up to once during each player's turn, you may re-roll (or force to
be re-rolled) any
one die of an attack roll.
-You may re-roll a die during
any kind of attack roll (weapon or basic).
-You may choose a die that is
part of an opponent's attack roll and force that die to
be rerolled.
If you have two Bokken in play
(via the 'Pair' ability):
-You may do each of these things up to two times per turn.
-You may use the abilities on
the same or different attack rolls.
- You may see the result of the first re-roll before deciding to use
the second re-roll ability.
-You may re-roll the same die
twice.
There are currently no plans to errata or to consider errata for the
Bokken.
When I use my Bokken's 'Precision' ability on
my opponent's attack roll, who actually re-rolls the die?
-You are the cause of the re-roll for purposes of cards that
trigger off of re-rolls occuring, but it is acceptable for the player
making the attack roll to actually execute the re-roll.
See also Zeus
Bonaid Tri-iteagan
When using the ability on Bonaid Tri-iteagan, do I roll an extra
die for every two dice in the roll?
-No; even if you were to roll eight dice, Bonaid Tri-iteagan would only
add one die to the roll. This is similar to Guan Yu, who only gains one
speed in a round from his ability, even if he hits with four basic
attacks.
Bonuses
Is there a difference between modifiers in attack grids and other
bonuses?
-A few, actually. Attack grids are not part of a card's abilities.
Attack grid modifiers are seperate from and do not count as bonuses or
other modifiers to attack or defense rolls.
Can I add bonuses to attacks that are made with specified bonuses,
like the shuriken's attacks which are 'made at +0'?
-No. The card text specifies the total modifiers to that attack's roll.
Can attack or defense rolls exceed 12 or fall below 2?
-Yes. Attack and defense rolls (or any roll, for that matter) may end
up at any value after modifiers and such are applied.
Is a card that adds a bonus to 'all rolls' (such as Mars)
considered to be adding
a bonus to attack or defense rolls as part of this bonus?
-Yes.
Does a bonus to 'all rolls' count as a bonus to attack rolls or
defense rolls?
-Yes. A bonus to 'all rolls' is considered to be a bonus to your attack
rolls and defense rolls, as well as providing a bonus to your
non-attack or defense rolls.

Bonuses – Damage
How do damage bonuses and
Critical Hits interact?
-Damage bonuses are applied after the base damage of a weapon
is doubled. Weapons with damage bonuses like Excalibur, Dane Axe, Alman
Sukh, and Kopis, do not
have those bonuses when you use them in a critical hit.
See Minb
See Shestoper
See Wanagi Wachipi Wahachanka
Bonuses – Speed
When a warrior gains or loses speed, is that
change made immediately? How does it work when a player gains or loses
speed in the middle of their turn?
-All speed gains and losses are applied immediately, unless they state
otherwise (such as abilities that affect your speed 'next round', or
'on your next turn').
If you gain speed in the middle of your turn, you will get to use that
speed to take an action later in that turn.
If you lose speed in the middle of your turn, you will always complet
the action you are currently taking. After that action, if you have
taken fewer actions this turn than your speed, you may use any
remaining speed to take other actions.
If, after the current action, you have taken as many or more actions in
the curent turn as you have speed, your turn is over.

Bonuses - Stacking
Does the bonus from the Targe remain from one round to the next?
Will I still gain
its bonus even after it has left play?
-Targe does not use the phrase 'next attack this round' or one similar
to it, therefore the bonus will remain until you actually make an
attack. Any bonus that comes into play with a specified duration will
remain in play for that entire duration even if the card that created
it leaves play. In this case, the Targe bonus would always apply to
that next attack, even if the Targe were discarded before that attack
is made.

Camulos
Do Camulos and Waköán Töánka allow me to use the reveal ability of
the card I turn face up whn I use their abilities?
-No. The only cards whose Reveal abilities you process are those
that you reveal at the beginning of a round (the card whose initiative
you reference) and those reveal abilities other cards tell you to
process (such as when cards are used with Lady of the Lake and Qing
Gong Palace).
Any other time a card is turned face up or otherwise brought into play,
you only process the Reveal effects if you are told to by a card
ability (like QGP's text).
Camulos and Waköán Töánka do not
create an infinite loop, or let you use other Reveal abilities on any
other card you turn face up when processing their abilities.

Canute The Great
What bonuses does Canute get from Crown of England?
-Canute is all elements, and ths gets all of the stated bonuses and
penalties from the Crown.
Which bonus does Canute gain from cards that give a bonuses to
warriors of either of two different elements?
-Canute would gain all such bonuses. Canute always counts as all
elements, so all cards that spcify any element would affect him. Any
card that affects a 'non-(element)' warrior would never afftect Canute.

Chehupahu Chanksa
How do I attack with Chehupahu Chanksa? Can I use the ability on
it more than once in a round?
-Chehupahu Chanksa has no spaces with modifiers in it's attack grid, so
you never actually attack with it. You wouldn't want to anyway, since
it has 0 base damage. The effect that provides a bonus for your basic
attack rolls is constant, and is 'always on' while the card is in play.

Code Du Paladin
If I am playing Code Du Paladin and I roll doubles, do I make my
free attack before the original attack deals damage?
-Yes. In most cases, this won't matter much, but the second attack, the
one granted by Code du Paladin, is made as soon as the attack roll is
finalized, but before the hit is determined.
Copies
Can I use more than one copy of a specific card?
-No. With the exception of cards with abilities that state otherwise,
you may only use one one copy of a given card in your four support
cards.
See also Once Per Game
Critical Hits
If I roll doubles on an attack roll and use Koeki Moengke Tengri to
set the roll equal to my experience so that the attack now hits, is it
still considered doubles and possibly a critical?
-Yes. Any ability that 'sets'
a roll to a number after the dice have been rolled does
not change it's 'doubles-ness'. If a die roll is doubles and a die is
rerolled, it is only doubles if the roll after all rerolls is still
doubles.

Discard/Discarding
How does Yang Wang Weh interact with the Card Restrictions rules?
If I discard it because I have too many insirations face up, can I use
it's ability? And what about Qing Gong Palace, which interacts wth
cards in the discard pile?
-Yang Wang Yeh 'reacts' to another card being discarded from play. This
includes cards that are discarded due to the Card Restrictions rules.
The sequence would work like this:
1) Reveal an inspiration, bringing you to too many face -up
inspirations.
2) Discard an inspiration due to the Card Restrictions rules.
3) If Yang Wang Yeh is still in play at tis point, it's game text may
now be used. (If Yang Wang Yeh was discarded in (2), it would not be in
play - therefore, you could not use it's ability) Qing Gong Palace is a
special that retrieves other cards from your discard pile. The timing
for this interaction would go like this:
1) Reveal Yang Wang Yeh. Qing Gong Palace and another inspiration are
already in play, and your warrior cannot have more than one inspiration
in play.
2) Due to the Card Requirements rules, you have to discard one of your
inspirations, and you choose Yang Wang Yeh.
3) You can now process the reveal effect of Qing Gong Palace, and you
chooce Yang Wang Yeh which is now in your discard pile.
4) At the point Yang Wang Yeh is in play, Qing Gong Palace is already
in the discard pile, and the trigger for Yang Wang Yeh - the discarding
of another card - has already passed. Even though Yang Wang Yeh says
'after' in the trigger, it still has to be in play when that trigger
occurs.
What happens if you are in the middle of
processing the ability of a card and it is somehow discarded from play?
-If a card creating an effect, or any card alredy providing a
bonus to an attack, is discarded before the effect or attack is
completed,
the effcts of that card that are already in effect are still used. Any
new effects of the card cannot be created after the card leaves play.
For example, if your Katana is discarded before the results of its
attack are determined, you would still use its attack grid and base
damage values for that attack. You could not use the ability of the
katana
that is performed 'when you hit', because the weapon will not be in
play at that time.

Disciplinia
Please clear up the phrase 'this turn' in Disciplina's text.
-The ability may be used any round, and 'this' refers to the round in
which you are making
the attack roll. 'Turn' should more p roperly have been 'round' since
there is no initiative for each turn. If the increase does not cause
doubles, it is the equivalent
of a +1 to the die roll.
Dli Breithim
In the case of Dli Breithim, when would damage be dealt to Sun Tzu
for the use of his ability? As soon as he uses the ability, or at the
start of his next turn?
-Dli Breithim deals the damage when the speed is actually gained.

See Once Per Turn
Durendal
Does the effect of Durendal reduce the damage you take immediately
before any other optional abilities apply, or can you still choose the
order in which cards take effect?
-You can still choose to apply your damage reduction abilities in any
order you would like. Effects that are generated earlier than others
need not be appied before others.
Duration
If a card leaves play/is discarded, will it's effects end? What
if those effects have a specified duration, or are created by a Reveal
ability?
-If a card's ability is continuous, such as 'Your attack rolls gain
+1', the effect ends as soon as the card leaves play. This is true
regardless of how the effect was created, even if it was by a Reveal or
'at the start of the round' ability.
If the effect has a duration, like 'for this round', 'your next
attack', or 'for this challenge/game', the effect will persist through
that duration even if the card leaves play.
Ealswith
Does Ealswith count damage done to your warrior by your own cards,
or only damage dealt
by opponents' cards?
-Ealswith counts all damage dealt by any card or attack.
Elhaz Rune
Can I move into a space in a warrior's basic or weapon attack grids
when I use Elhaz Rune?
-Either. You may move into any space in any of the opponents' attack
grids.
Empty
Is there a difference between the terms 'Empty' and 'Unoccupied'?
-Yes. 'Empty' spaces/rows/columns have no cards in them.
'Unoccupied' spaces/etc. have no warriors in them, but may have other
cards in them.
Epee Celtique
What happens when I am using Epee Celtique and I hit twice with
sword attacks on my opponent's turn?
-Since it is not your turn, you cannot spend the speed the card
generates.
See also Trait and Type
Excalibur
If my opponent is using Dane Axe and I reveal Excalibur, how much
extra damage would my Excalibur deal?
-Excalibur's damage bonus is equal to the base damage of the opponent's
weapon. In the case of the Dane Axe, that base damage is always 0, the
damage from the Dane Axe is all a bonus based off of the number of
face-up support cards. In this case, Excalibur would get a damage bonus
of +0.

Face – Down
Can I discard a face-down
card with Yue or other similar cards?
-Face-down cards can never
be discarded from play by any means whatsoever.
Face – Up
Is there a difference between a card being revealed and it
being turned face-up?
-Yes. A card that is turned face up does not have its reveal abilities
happen, and does not count as being revealed. A French card being
turned up does not give Roland Le Paladin 1 life, for example.
Facing
Can my warrior face diagonally?
-No. Warriors can only face in orthoganal directions (up, down, left,
and right). This was a minor oversight in the current rules document;
future versions will correct this issue.
Ger
Does the damage increasing ability of Ger apply each time I attack
with it?
-Yes; each time you use the ability, the damage of the weapon
increases.
This card recieved an editing error, and as worded, the trigger occurs
too soon in the attack process. Treat the card as if it read: "After
you hit with this weapon, after the attack deals damage, if the attack
roll was greater than the defender's experience, this weapon deals +1
damage for the rest of the game."

Guan Yu
How often can Guan Yu gain his speed bonus?

Harald Hardrada
Can I use Harald Hardrada
and Loricae Segmentta to reduce the damage from one attack twice?
-Yes. You choose the order that you apply these effects, and each
effect lists the minimum it may reduce the damage to. You may use
abilities in the order that reduces the damage to the lowest minimum.
Hatori Hanzo
Can Hatori Hanzo jump from anywhere on the field to attack, or do
you have to be in the attack grid of your weapon to use it?
-Like Iyanmila, you have to be in a proper grid to make the attack after
the movement.
Herakles
Under which circumstances do I get to make a free basic attack with
Herakles?
-Whenever an opponent moves into a space in your basic attack grid.
This could be by their action or card ability, or could be from your
card ability. The important distinction is that they
are the one moving, not you.
Hit
For purposes of the Golden Corselet, does "hit" count as any damage
(i.e. pitching Pilum, retribution from Nsywt, etc.) or specifically
only damage from a weapon or base attack?
-'Hit' implies 'attack'. Direct damage cards like Skegox, Pilum, Zhu
Rong, and such that don't require attack and defense rolls, are not
attacks and do not count as hits.
Horn Bow
What is the discard pile the Horn Bow Refers to? When can I use
this ability?
-All cards discarded from the
game during play, and all cards discarded after one game
in a multiple-game match (such as a best 2 out of 3 or best 3 out of 5
tournament match) are placed in your discard pile.
There was a minor misprint in Set 2. The 'nis' ability of the Egyptian
Weapon Horn Bow, as printed, has no trigger. This ability is an
'Action' ability.
Horus
See Rolling
Infinite Loop
Is it possible to create an 'infinite loop' of card abilities?
-There may be a series of card plays that allow you to use and then
reuse a series of abilities,
Seemingly with no end in sight. If this ever happens, just consider all
of the abilities involved in the 'loop' to be used once, and continue
the game from the point just after all of those abilities were
triggered.
Loops that are infinite and do
not require player decisions (notably Zeus / Zeus) end
after one iteration, and all related effects are considered to be used.
Loops that require a decision to continue, and may be infinite
(Lady/Lady/Nobunaga), can continue as long as the deciding player
wants, and all relevant effects occur as they should. This may present
a stalling issue if the acting player performs more slowly than
absolutely necessary, and tournament judges are responsible to monitor
these incidents.

Initiative
Can initiative values drop below zero?
-Yes. All cards that referenc
initiative values still function properly if the value
is less than 0. For instance, if you have an initiative value of -2,
your opponent with Odin in play would roll one die and subtract 2 for
each attack and defense roll.
What is a player's initiative for round 5?
-Since no player revealed a support card in round 5, all player's have
an initiative of null. Warriors use their experience to break this tie,
determining turn order for this round. For Odin and other cards that
refer to initiative, the relevant value is 0 during round 5.
What happens at the start
of the fifth round if I am using Nemesis or Langox to
alter the initiative values of that round? Since neither player
has an initiative value for round five, none of these nonexistant
values and be modified. Initiative during round five is always
determined solely on experience.
If Boudicca reveals a Cavalry card as her first support card, does
it gain +2 initiative from her ability?
-Yes. Like Blossius of Cumae,
abilities with constant effects that do not specify 'reveal'
or 'start of the round' come into effect as soon as they enter play. In
this case, a cavalry support card would activate Boudicca's ability,
which would then add +2 initiative to that Cavalry card.
If The card I reveal is not in play later in the turn, what do I use
for cards that compare a value to my initiative?
-Your initiative for the round is the value that you used when you
checked to see who goes first. If that card is discarded, turned face
down or otherwise altered, the value you used at that point in your
turn
is still your initiative.

Inyanmila
Do I have to be in a legal attacking position to use the free
movement ability on Inyanmila?
-No. Since the trigger on Inyanmila is 'Immediately before you
attack with this weapon', none of the attack's properties are set yet.
You can use this ability even if you aren't in a legal attack position
yet, as long as you move into one with the ability. After you have
moved,
you use the attack grid modifier for the space you moved into with the
ability for executng the attack.
Joan of Arc
When do you decide which armor ability you will use with Joan of Arc?
-You can choose to use whichever is giving you a greater bonus at
any
time, so long as you are only ever using one bunus.
For example, let's assume these card abilities:
'Your defense rolls gain +1.' and
'When you are attacked, is one of the dice in the attack roll is a 5,
your
defense roll gains +2.'
For any given attack, or other game action that would check the bonus
to
your defense rolls, you can decide to use either the +1 or, if an
attack
roll die shows a 5, decide to switch to using the +2 bonus.
Julius Caesar
I am playing Julius Caesar and Odin, when I use Julius' ability, do
I still add my opponent's initiative? How does Odin work with Julius
Caesar?
-Nope. Since you never roll dice when you use Julius' ability, you
don't substitute your opponent's initiative for a die you didn't roll.
If a player uses Julius Caesar's ability while they have Odin in play,
their next roll will be a 7.
How does Julius Caesar's ability work?
-When you use this ability, you are setting the outcome of the die
roll. You don't actually roll any dice, and use '7' as the total of the
dice rolled. You still add any appropriate modifiers (like your attack
grid, if the roll is an attack roll) to the roll. The roll cannot be
doubles (since you didn't roll two dice and get the same
result on both), unless another card's effect makes the roll doubles.
You must decide to use this ability before
Seeing any opposing roll.
How does Julius Caesar's ability interact with Wóphiye Waköán?
-It doesn't. When you use Julius Caesar's ability, you don't actually
roll any dice, so there are none to swap with the die on Wóphiye Waköán.

Kupe
I am playing Kupe. My opponent has Golden Corselet in play. Since
Golden Corselet's text is all one ability, if my opponent hits me, do
they discard their Corselet?
-Actually, you discard their corselet. You use all aspects of the
specified abilities on your opponent's cards, even the detrimental ones.
Lady of the Lake
Can I use Lady of the Lake to copy the Reveal ability of an
Inspiration card?
-No. Since the Lady is herself an inspiration, you will have to discard
one of your inspirations before using the Reveal ability of the Lady.
If you are allowed to have Lady and another Inspiration in play, this
in not a problem, and you may re-use the reveal ability of the other
inspiration.
If I use Lady of the Lake on my opponent's Qing Gong Palace, who
gets control of the returned card?
-Whenever you use Lady of the Lake on an opponent's Reveal ability,
you are causing that ability to be re-used, but your opponent still
controls the card. Therefore, your opponent would gain control of the
card you
select when processing Qing Gong Palace. Similarly, your opponent's
Excalibur would give itself the bonus, and any of your opponent's cards
that use
the text 'you' would still affect the controller (usually the owner) of
the card.

Does Leo gain 2 life and survive?
-No. When warriors die, they don't get the chance to play any card

-Yes. A warrior's starting life is not a maximum.

Loki
If my opponent is using a
2-handed weapon, and I exchange it for my 1-handed weapon
with Loki, can I throw that weapon away if I also have a
1-handed shield in play?
-No. This is a special exception to the Card Combinations rules. In the
above case and others, Loki can create conditions that would normally
allow a player to discard the weapon gotten from their opponent and
then recieve their original weapon back at the end of the round. To
prevent this case from happening, the Card Combinations rules
concerning the number of cards of a certain type a player can use at
once
and number of Hands required by some cards are all suspended while Loki
is in effect. Players trade weapons when Loki is revealed and
then return them at the end of the round.

Maid Marion
When I reveal Maid Marion, can I place it in an
occupied space in the Arena? Can I use Maid Marion's action
to move to that space?
-You may place Maid Marion in
an occupied space in the arena, but 2 warriors cannot
occupy the same space at the same time, so you could not use
Maid Marion to move into an occupied space.
Mangudai Steed
Does Mangudai Steed allow an attack with a ranged weapon even if it
has already been used for that turn? What
about outside of my turn? What if my opponent is not in the
weapon's attack grid?
-The attack granted by the Steed can be made if you have already used
the weapon that turn, and doesn't count against the weapon's 'one
attack per turn' limit. The attack can be made outside of your turn.
The attack roll is always made at +0; the roll cannot gain bonuses, and
the attack can be made even if the target is not in the weapon's attack
grid.
Marcus Claudius Marcellus
Can Marcus Claudius Marcellus make an attack if he is in any of his
opponent's attack
grids? Can this hit deal 2 damage if it is a critical?
-You can attack your opponenent from any of their attack grids. Nothing
can increase the damage of this attack above 1.
Is Marcus Claudius Marcellus considered to have no attack grid?
-Marcus has no modifiers in any spaces in his attack grid; therefore a
warrior is never considered to be in Macus' basic attack grid.
Can Marcus Claudius Marcellus gain bonuses to his rolls with Gladius
Romae?
-Yes. The ability does not use the 'at +x' phrasing that Shuriken and
similar cards do. It is that phrase (specifically the word 'at') that
indicates that the roll cannot gain bonuses.

Minb
Does the damage bonus of the Minb accumulate over several missed
attack rolls? When I finally hit with this weapon, do I get all of the
bonus damage at once?
-Yes to both questions; if you miss with the Minb 3 times and hit with
the fourth attack, that attack will deal +3 damage.
Modify/Modifying
What kinds of card abilities are considered to 'modify' a roll?
-Any ability that applies a modifier, swaps a die, changes the value of
a die, sets the roll to a number, rerolls any dice, changes the
'doublesness' of a roll, or any effect other than a 'straight' roll of
two dice.
Is modifying 'any number of dice' the same as modifying a 'roll'
for the ability on Tuagh-chatha Albannach?
-'Your attack/defense roll gains +X' abilities do not trigger this
card; it is looking for effects like Disciplina, that actually modify,
swap or change the value of the dice themselves, not just the roll in
general.
See Rolling
Movement
What are the specific differences between 'moving' and 'rotating'?
-On your turn, you may use an
action to affect your warrior's position in three ways:
1) You may 'move' from one space to an adjacent space. Normally, you
cannot move diagonally.
2) You may rotate your warrior
in place to face any of the four sides of that warrior's
space.
3) You may first move, then rotate, your warrior. 'Moving' is defined
as 'the act of leaving one space and entering another'. For this
reason, rotating does not trigger Beowulf's penalty or Kopis' damage
bonus. Whenever a card ability allows you to move your warrior, you are
allowed the same option as you are when you use an action to move - you
may rotate for free after moving. Nakano Takeko, Uma, Bucephalus, and
Pythagoras are all examples of cards that move your warrior. When
a card allows you to move another player's warrior, that card will
specify whether you may also rotate that warrior.
What happens if a card ability moves the attacking or defending
warrior after the attack is declared but before a hit is determined
(such as with Udjat Eye and Gutal)?
-As soon as the attacker annonces his attack, as long as the attack is
legal at that point, all values about the attack are determined, and do
not change until the attack is completed. If either warrior involved in
an attack moves such that the defender is no longer in the
right attack grid, or a card providing a bonus to the attack
roll, defense roll, or damage (or even the attacking weapon itself) is
discarded from play after the attack is declared but
before the attack resolves, the attack continues as normal. For
instance, if the defender moves due to effects that trigger off of
attack or defense rolls, the attack is still completed. If a card that
adds a damage bonus is discarded after the attack is declared, the
bonus will still apply to that attack, but not
to future attacks. If such a case happens before an effect is
triggered, the effect cannot be triggered if it is no longer legal. For
example, if a card that would allow a re-roll is discarded after the
attack
is declared but before the initial roll is made, the ability on that
card cannot be used after it is discarded.
If a card effect moves a warrior two
or more spaces, are the movements of each space handled seperately?
-Yes. Each space you move counts as a move, even if they are all made
at once.
You could enter and leave a space in an opponent's attack grid,
triggering their Mangudai Steed; you are considered to move twice for
purposes of triggering Num Mor; each space moved would be penalized by
Beowulf's Tenacity, and so forth.
This differs from cards that specify the destination of the move, such
as Elhaz Rune. When these cards are used, the warrior is only moved
once - not through each intermittent space.

Negative Numbers
Does a negative modifier count as a bonus?
-No. Negative modifiers are just that, and are referred to as
'modifiers' by card text.
Can a warrior have negative experience?
-If a card effect reduces a warrior's experience by more than they
have, their experience will go to a negative number. If a card requires
you to 'spend'
experience as a cost, you cannot do so if you have less than 1
experience, as you don't have any to spend.

Nemere
How exactly does Nemere work?
This post was edited and reversed on 8/24/5
-Nemere's text reads:
At the start of each round, choose a direction. At the start of each
player's turn, move their warrior one space in the chosen direction if
possible.
Here are the answers to several questions asked about the card:
-You can choose any non-diagonal direction. These directions are
relative to the board, not to a warrior.
-When your Nemere moves your warrior, you may rotate with that movement.
-When your Nemere moves an opposing warrior, they do not rotate.
-When Beowulf's Nemere moves Beowulf's opponent, the movement
does not cost an extra action, since the movement is caused by
Beowulf's card.
-Nemere cannot move a warrior out of the arena or into an occupied
space.

Ninja
How do Loki and Zeus interact with Ninja?
-You can be given a 2-handed weapon by Loki. Since Loki causes all
restrictions about weapon usage (by card type, name, hands, etc.) to be
ignored, you
could use that 2-handed weapon during the round that Loki is in effect.
If you tried to reveal a 2-handed weapon with Zeus in play, you would
have to discard the weapon because of the Shinobi
abiity before you would have the chance to make use of Zeus' ability.
Ninja-to
When I attack with the Ninja

Odin
Can I ever make a critical hit with Odin in play?
-Without another card that creates doubles for attack rolls or critical
hits for your attacks, no. Your opponent's initiative is not a die and
therefore cannot match the other die you roll.
What do I do if I have Odin face-up and I attack with Ninja-to?
-Since these abilities conflict directly and are not additive (niether
says to roll one more or less die - both specify a number of dice to
roll), you would choose which card's ability is used.
I'm playing Odin. My opponent uses Nemesis to increase his
initiative for this round by 10, giving him 16 initiative for the
round. Does this bonus affect my bonus from Odin?
-Certainly. If your opponent has an initiative of 15, you would roll
one die and add 15 instead of rolling two dice for that round.
Is Odin's effect considered a 'bonus'? What
if my opponent's initiative is less than one?
-Odin's text '...roll plus the attacking or defending opponent's
initiative...' infers that the effect is a bonus. If the amount you
added were negative, the effect would not be a bonus, as it would be a
negative adjustment at that point.

Once Per Game
If I play a second copy of a card with an ability that can only be
used "once per game", can I use the ability on the second copy of the
card?
-Normally, you cannot use more than one copy of each given card in your
4 support cards. However, if you use an ability on a card that is used
once per game, and that card is later discarded and returned to play,
you could not use that ability a second time.
Once Per Turn
Can I use the Do in response to the Ropalo's Reveal ability?
-Yes. Abilities that are restricted to 'once per turn' may be used any
number of times outside of player's turns as possible, but only once in
response to each trigger. This does not count as using the ability
during any player's turn.

Polusablya
How does Polusablya work if you activate it outside of your turn
using Shapur I's game text?
-If you use an ability whose effects last for the current turn
outside of a turn, the ability produces no effect for the non-existant
'current turn'. Polusablya affects the current and next turns, however,
so the ability will still affect your next turn.
Qing Gong Palace
Can I use Qing Gong Palace to place a
discarded warrior from a previous game in this match into my support
card slot? If I can, can I use an ability on that warrior card?
-Warrior cards may never occupy support card slots, even with Qing Gong
Palace.
Can Qing Gong Palace retrieve itself? When is the ability of Qing
Gong Palace considered to be resolved: before or after using the reveal
ability of the card played?
-When resolving Qing Gong Palace, you are discarding your card and
returning a card from the discard pile to play at the same time. Since
Qing Gong Palace is not in the discard pile when you process this
ability, it cannot return itself to play, since it hasn't left play yet.
Part of Qing Gong Palace's ability is to process the Reveal ability of
the card you fetch, so Qing Gong is not done processing until that
other Reveal ability is done as well.
How would Qing Gong Palace and Wakhan Thanka/Camulos interact with
each other?
-Wakhan Thanka and Camulos have reveal effects that involve turning
them face down and swapping them with other cards, which are turned
face-up.
If these cards are retrieved from the discard pile by Qing Gong Palace,
QGP will cause their reveal effects to be processed. At the end of the
round, QGP will discard the card it retrieved if it is still in play,
which Wakhan Thanka or Camulos will no longer be. The discard part of
QGP's effect will not happen.
See Discard/Discarding
Ramses II
If I use the action ability on Ramses II and make a weapon attack,
does it count as my weapon attack for the turn?
-Yes. Unless the ability says

and specifies a weapon attack, the attack will count as your
weapon attack for the turn.
Reveal/Revealed

Rhiannon
If my opponent reveals a cavalry card on the same round that I
reveal Rhiannon (who gives me life each time a cavalry card is
revealed), will I gan 2 life or only 1?
-You would gain 2.
Rolling
Are simultaneous attack and defense rolls considered different
rolls?
-Yes. For example, Horus can re-roll both one attacking die and one
defending die during the same attack.
When I use a card ability to set a die roll to a value, do I still
apply atack grids and other modifiers?
-If the card ability sets the roll to a vlue before the dice are
rolled, you will still apply the regular modifiers to that roll. Since
no dice were rolled in this case, re-rolls and die modifications
obviously cannot be
used.
If the ability sets the roll to a value after the dice are rolled, the
attack grid and other such modifiers were already applied to the roll
and as such are not applied again after the roll is set to the
value.

Returned To Play
If I use a card effect that has a duration,
and the card is discarded and returned to play before the duration
is complete, can I use the card effect again?
-Certainly. Cards never 'remember' what they have done before they were
brought into play the most recent time. If a card is used and later
discarded, it won't 'remember' that it had been used when it comes back
into play.
Sarissae
I am using Calum III with Sarissae and I use Calum's ability to jump
to a square in my Sarissae's grid. Does Calum now take damage from
Sarissae's ability?
-Yes. In Sarrisae's ability: 'a warrior' can be your own warrior. Calum
reads 'Diongbhaltas - Action: Move to any space in any of your attack
grids', so he is quite specifically moving into a space in the grid of
the Sarissae.
In short: yes, you do damage yourself when you use Calum III to move
into a space in Sarissae's attack grid.

Shestoper
How does a damage bonus from a card ability affect attacks with
Shestoper?
The key to Shestoper is that you are making one attack and three
attack rolls . This means lots of things:
-Damage bonuses are only applied once to the whole attack.
-Constant attack roll bonuses apply to each attack roll, and since all
of the attack rolls are made at the same point of time, 'next attack'
roll bonuses apply to each attack roll.
-'If the attack hits and the attack roll is doubles, the attack is a
critical and deals double damage'. So, if any of your three attack
rolls are doubles and that attack roll hits, the damage from that
attack roll is doubled. However, since an attack can't be 'double
critical', you can only double any one
part of the damage, even if more than one of the attack rolls fulfills
the
conditions.
I use Loki to give my opponent my Shestoper. Does the 'You cannot
use
another weapon this game' text on the Shestoper cause either of us to
discard
our weapons either on the initial swap or on the return swap at the end
of
the round?
-No. There are two reasons for this.
First, Loki suspends the restrictions about weapon usage, even those
imposed
by card abilities, while it is in effect. This means that even if your
opponent
were using 2 weapons when you gave them your Shestoper, they would not
have
to discard either of their weapons.
Secondly, the usage of the term 'another' in Shestoper's text refers to
itself.
It is not legal to use a Shestoper and an additional weapon. Since
neither
you or your opponent are trying to do so (except in the case above,
which
is only within the Loki-suspension turn), neither of you will need to
discard
a weapon.

Slea Le Scian Le Cuma Duilleog
If I am using Slea Le Scian Le Cuma Duilleog, and my opponent gains

-Yes, and if during that attack, they gain another life, you get
another free attack. This continues each time they gain life.
Spartacus
How exactly does Spartacus' ability work?
-If you have an inspiration in play, you may spend two actions to
attack with your weapon, even if you have already used that weapon once
this turn.
Can Spartacus' ability to
attack with a weapon twice be used after he misses when
I have Bo Xiong Jia in play?
-Bo Xiong Jia reads 'When you
are attacked and missed, the attacking opponent cannot
attack you with their next action this turn. Spartacus' action
ability, while costing 2 actions to use, would be the next action that
warrior takes, and therefore cannot be used against you
at that time.
Spartan Lakonian
If I have Spartan Lakonian and my opponent has no weapon, do my
basic attack rolls also get +1?
-Yes. Spartan Lakonian doesn't read 'attack rolls with this weapon', so
it affects all of your attack rolls.
Speed
Can I use abilities like Nächtlicher Angriff that make me lose speed
'on your next turn' during round 5?
-Sometimes. There is a difference between abilities where the loss of
speed on the next turn is part of the effect, and those for which it is
a cost.
If part of a card's aility reads 'If you do, you get -1 speed on
your next turn' or similar, this is part of the card's ability, and can
be used on round 5, even though there is no sixth round.
If the card's ability reads 'you may choose to get -1 speed on your
next turn. If you do...' or similar, the loss of speed is part of the
cost of the ability. Since there is no sixth round, you can't choose to
lose
speed in that non-existant round.
If you ever see an ability that uses 'You may do X. If you do, Y'
wording, or 'do X to do Y', the X phrases are costs and the Y phrases
are
effects. If you can't do X (or don't choose to if you have the option),
you don't do Y.
For example, in the following ability, 'Behagliche Wärme: After you
take damage, you may discard this card or get -1 speed on your next
turn. If you do either, immediately move up to one space.', the loss
of speed is a cost.
In the following ability, 'Attacke bei Nacht: Once per round, after an
attack misses you, you may immediately make an attack, if possible. If
you do, you get -1 speed on your next turn. This attack deals +1
damage.', the loss of speed is part of the effect.

doubles is not enough.

Tao Yuan San Jie Yi
How does Tao Yuan San Jie
Yi interact with Sun Tzu, Yue Fei or Guan Yu if I choose

-Any speed bonuses for the current round are negated, and future speed
bonuses cannot be gained during this round. Sun Tzu would lose all
'stored' actions and have 3 speed for this round. He could then 'store'
these actions for next round. Guan Yu would lose all speed bonuses
gained in previous rounds and could not gain any on this round. On
future rounds, he would regain speed bonuses gained from rounds before
Tao Yuan San Jie Yi was revealed. Yue Fei would have a speed of 1 for
the round that Tao Yuan San Jie Yi is revealed, but would be able to
gain speed bonuses on future rounds.

Vercingetorix?
-Tecumtha : 'Once per round, before you make a defense roll, you may
choose to reduce the roll by 2. If you do...'

Tecumtha requires you to do something as a cost that Vercingetorix
prohibits. Therefore, you can't pay the cost, so you can't get the
benefit of Tecumtha's ability.
Ties
When a triggered ability triggers when "you lose a tie," does this
include tie-breakers of tie-breaks?
-No, all random tiebreakers are made out of the game, and do not
trigger any card abilities.
If my attack roll and the defender's defense roll are tied, and our
experiences are also tied, does the attack miss?
-No. In any case where there is a tie (rolls, initiative, etc.) and
experience values also tie, there is a straight roll-off, made with no
bonuses or other card effects, to break the tie. This roll-off cannot
use, be affected by, or trigger any card effects - this is to keep the
roll-off fair: since the original roll or initiative values were tied,
no player should have an advantage for this tie-breaking roll.
Can I use Sheng Kai De Mu
Lan Hua to break a tie right after dice are rolled?
-Sheng Kai De Mu Lan Hua is used only after all other effects that add
bonuses to, reroll, or otherwise modify die rolls are used. That's what
the phrase 'before a tie is broken by experience' is meant to describe.
Which ties does Oda Nobunaga win, and which does he lose?
-All ties: Initiative, Attack/Defense, and end of game ties, go to
experince. Since Oda Nobunaga wins all ties regardless of experience,
he wins all of these kinds of ties.
Timing
What happens when both players have abilities that can be used at
the same time? Who plays their abilities first? If two players
have abilities that activate at the same time, the precedence goes like
this: 1) Current Player (or in the case of Reveal or 'start of round'
abilities, the player with higher initiative) decides to use any/all
abilities that trigger at this time. 2) Opponent decides to use any/all
of their abilities that trigger at this time. 3) Current Player (same
player as in 1 above) gets the chance to use any abilities he hadn't
already used in part 1 above. 4) Opponent (same player as in 2 above)
gets the chance to use any abilities he hadn't already used in part 2
above. This continues until all relevant abilities are used, or until
both players in sequence 'pass' the opportunity to use a relevant
ability. If this happens, niether player can use any
further abilities that trigger at this time and play continues.
Basically,
each involved player will have the opportunity to use their abilities
and react to the other player using their abilities.
When is a warrior's life checked to see if they have been defeated?
-Only after all card abilities relevant to the situation have been
used. If a card ability lets a player gain life in the middle of an
attack action, they may not be defeated by the attack. In contrast, if
an ability is used after an attack is made, it would not occur
before player's life totals are checked.

Tiwaz
When a player uses Tiwaz to reflect the damage of a critical hit,
which player is dealing the damage? The player using Tiwaz or the
player making the critical hit?

making the attack is still responsibe for it. The attacker is dealing
damage to themselves as a result of Tiwaz' ability.
Trigger(s)
What is the complete order of triggers for attack and defense rolls?
Is the decision to swap modifiers with Clogaid Phembridge made
before or after rolls?
-The trigger here is 'When you are attacked', which is as soon as it is
announced, before rolls are made.
This is the complete order of steps involved in making an attack:
['Before you attack']
-Declare the attack.
['When you attack'/'When you are attacked']
-Make attack and defense rolls.
['When you make an attack/defense roll']
['After you make an attack/defense roll']
-Check for a hit.
['If/when you hit'/'If/when you are hit']
['After you hit/are hit']
['Before you are dealt damage']
-Deal damage.
['After you deal/are dealt damage']
['after you attack'/'after you are attacked']
This does not cover all of the triggers in the game, but gives a
clear outline of when these effects are processed. This list will be
edited to be made more correct as necessary.
I am using Shapur with Zhad and Siuloir Na Cosach Croise. I use
Shapur's ability, and the result is doubles (and greater than Shapur's
life). I want to use Zhad, but I also want to use Siuloir to move to a
space not adjacent to my opponent. Which ability resolves first?
-In this case, you have 2 abilities triggering at the same time, as
both abilities are contingent on the result of Shapur's roll. You will
get to choose the order that you process those abilities.
Tomor Scimitar
How does Tomor Scimitar interact with Shan Wen
Jia?
-Tomor scimitar gains a damage bonus equal to the largest defense bonus
the defending player has. This ability is activated before the attack
roll is made.
Shan Wen Jia gives your defense roll a +3 bonus for each 1 you roll in
a defense roll. Since Tomor Scimitar's effect as the same size as
the largest defense bonus before the attack roll (and therefore defense
roll) is made, it cannot gain +3 based on Shan Wen Jia's bonus because
that bonus doesn't exist yet.

(This is a change from the currently posted set 5 rulebook, and will be
reflected in that rulebook soon).

Turns
Is there a difference between a 'round' and a 'turn'?
-Yes. A 'round' consists of the following parts:
1) Cards are revealed and initiative is determined.
2) Reveal and 'at start of round' abilities are used.
3) Each player plays one turn,
in order of initiative.
4) 'At end of round' abilities
are used. During each player's turn, they will take a
number of actions as dictated by their speed to attack, move, or use
'Action' abilities. During a match , players
play several games . During a game, five
rounds are played. During each round , each player
takes one turn . Game is synonymous with challenge ,
but future cards will use the term game for consistency.

Two of (Cardtype)
I am playing Seti I ('you
may have two inspirations in play') and Ra ('you may have
another inspiration in play'). Do these abilities combine, allowing me
to use three inspirations?
-No. These abilities accomplish the same thing, and do not add
together. For clarity, the line 'you may have 2 (card type) in play'
should be treated as 'you are allowed to have up to 2 (card type) in
play.' Similarly, the line 'you may have another (card type) in play'
should be treated as 'you are allowed to have another (card type)
besides
this one.' The same goes for cards that allow extra cards based
on their sub types, such as a card that would allow you to have
another 'head' card in play. You could have a second 'head' card,
regardless of that card's card type, in play, but it would not be
cumulative with a card that allowed you another armor or special, for
instance.

Udjat Eye
If I roll a pair of ones on a roll, do I gain one life or two from
my Udjat Eye?
-Two; the Eye triggers once for each one rolled. Note that rolls made
to break ties between warriors that are tied on experience ('Straight
roll-off' rolls) do not trigger the Eye.
When I roll two ones or 'snake-eyes' with Udjat eye in play, do I
gain 2 life? If so, would this trigger cards that react to life gain
once or twice?
-Rolling double ones with Udjat Eye in play would gain you one life
twice. This would
trigger Gutal or similar cards twice. You would have to resolve both of
those efects immediately one after the other.

Unoccupied
Is there a difference between the terms 'Empty' and 'Unoccupied'?
-Yes. 'Empty' spaces/rows/columns have no cards in them.
'Unoccupied' spaces/etc. have no warriors in them, but may have other
cards in them.
Vercingaetorix
How does Torc Orga interact with Vercingetorix as far as defense
rolls are concerned?
-Verc isn't reducing defense rolls, but rather preventing them from
being increased (or otherwise modified) in the first place. Torc does
not prevent Verc's ability from working.

Vergifteter Dolch
Does Vergifteter Dolch's ability deal 1 damage several times or deal
all of its damage at once?
-It's only one ability, so all the damage is dealt at once in a
singe 'lump'.
Waköán Töánka

Wakinyan Wahachanka
Is Wakinyan Wahachanka intended to not have a hand requirement?
-Yes.
Wanagi Wachipi Wahachanka
Wanagi Wachipi Wahachanka says your defense rolls gain +3 against
attacks that deal more than their base damage. At what point do you
determine if an attack will deal more than its base damage?
-Any attack that has a bonus to it's damage before the rolls are
being made will give you the defense roll bonus. Critical hits and
other
damage bonuses that do not come into effect until after the rolls have
been finalized (Like Mace of the Scorpion King) cannot trigger this
bonus
because the defense roll is finalaized at the same time as the attack
roll.
Wanhi Chanhpi
If I hit an opponent with Wanhi Chanhpi, does that mean that even
any positive modifiers in their attack grids will not apply on their
next turn?
-That is correct.

When You Are Attacked
Does the ability of Tyegilyai happen before or after the attack and
defense rolls?
-The trigger is 'when you are attacked', and attack and defense
rolls are made at the same time, so the decision is made before any
rolls are made.
Wóphiye Waköán
What happens when I use Lady of the Lake to duplicate the Reveal
ability on Wóphiye Wakhán?
Lady of the Lake says 'Epiphanes - Reveal: Name a reveal ability on
any other face-up card. Use that ability as if you had just revealed
that card.'
The reveal ability of Wóphiye Wakhán places a die on Wóphiye Wakhán, so
processing this ability again places
another die on this card. Once per turn, you would be able to swap one
of the dice of this card with one of the dice in one of your rolls. You
don't get any extra uses of Wóphiye Wakhán, just a second
die to select from.
Is the die swap ability of Wophiye Wakhan a true swap? Do you
actually move the physical dice, or just set the die in the roll to the
value of the die on Wophiye Wakhan?
-Yes, it's a 'true swap'; you physically move the dice such that
the die in the roll and the die on the card trade places.

Yang Wang Ye
If I reveal an inspiration round 1, and then reveal Yang Wang Ye on
round 2. Does the discarding of one of my illegal inspirations trigger
Yeng Wang Ye?
-Assuming that you discarded the inspiration you revealed in round 1,
yes. If you discarded Yeng Wang Ye and left the other inspiration in
play, Yeng Wang Ye would not be in play and its ability couldn't be
used.

Yue
I am playing Vercingaetorix, and have a Yue as my weapon. As the
first action of my turn, I atack and hit with the Yue. The defender of
my attack has a Full Mail Huberk in play. What happens next?
Vercingetorix: Defense rolls cannot be modified. Once per round when
you hit, if the defender has no shield or Armor cards in play, your
attack deals +1 damage.
Yue: If you hit with this weapon as your first attack of your turn,
discard one of the defender's non-weapon support cards.
Full Mail Hauberk: You take one less damage, to a minimum of one, from
all attacks except those from ranged weapons.
As soon as the hit is determined, the Yue and Verc both have their
effects trigger. You could choose to discard your opponent's Full Mail
Hauberk with Yue's ability and then process Vercingetorix's ability,
adding 1 damage to the attack.
Next, the damage is dealt, and Full Mail Hauberk cannot affect the
damage because it is no longer in play.

Zeus
What happens when both players try to use Zeus at the start of a
turn?
-The player with the higher initiative would get the first chance to
use their Zeus. If they chose to name Zeus' ability, the other player
could not use their Zeus this turn, but could on the start of the next
round. If the first player did not name Zeus' ability, the second
player would be able to use theirs. If they named Zeus' abilty, it
would cancel the first player's Zeus, making the ability named by the
first player useable again.
How does Zeus interact with Reveal abilities and 'at the start of
the round' abilities?
-If an ability has created an
effect that lasts for a duration that hasn't yet expired
(like an ability that gives a bonus that lasts 'until the end of the
round'), Zeus will cancel that ability and its effects. If an ability
does something once and then has no further effect (like an ability
that moves a warrior or gains a player some life) has already happened
completely, and cannot be cancelled after the
fact by Zeus.
What happen when Zeus 'turns off' the Bokken's 'Pair' ability?
-If a player with has an illegal combination of cards after Zeus'
abilty is used, that player will have to discard cards to make their
combination legal, regardless of why the cards are illegal (hand usage,
cards of the same type, name, or body location). This is true for any
such circumstance during any part of a game. (Except Loki
- See related question)
Does Zeus 'turn off' all copies of the named ability, or only one?
-All abilities with the name selected by the player using Zeus are
effected, regardless of
which player has those cards in play.
How does Zeus interact with Sun Tzu? Would Sun Tzu lose all of his
'stored up' speed?
-No; Zeus would simply prevent Sun Tzu's ability to 'store' speed from
being used during the current round. He would still gain the benefit of
all of
his previously 'stored up' actions.
Can Zues name an ability that is not
on a card in play? What if that ability is in effect, but the card that
created the effect has left play?
-Zeus can name any ability; the card doesn't say otherwise. If you name
an ability that is not on a card in play, chances are that the named
ability won't come into effect that round.
If the named ability is already in effect, but the cards is not in
play, Zeus treats the effect just like any other - it is 'turned
off' for the round, and comes back into effect when Zues' effect
expires.

Zhad
How many hands does Zhad require to use?
-Two. There is a minor printing error in which the card reads '2 Hand'
instead of '2
Hands'.
How does Zhad work in round five?
Zhad requires you to compare a die roll to your opponent's initiative
in round 5. Initiative in round 5 is null, which means nonexistent. The
die roll cannot be greater than, less than, or equal to null.
Therefore, Zhad can be used, but will never actually deal damage in
round 5.
Zhad has the text 'You may use another Special card.' at the end of
the Action ability. Does this differ from other cards with similar
text?
-No. You do not need to use the Zhad before the allowance of a second
Special card comes into play. You may treat that text as though it were
on a seperate line.
If this ability were negated by Zeus, the entire ability would be
turned off.
