The Emyn Beraid, or Tower Hills, are the westernmost hills of Eriador before the land of Lindon. In the Fourth Age of the Sun, they form part of the Westmarch, a region of the Shire. The Emyn Beraid are named for the three White Towers, the tallest of which is Elostirion, which housed one of the palantir until the end of the Third Age. Fastred of Greenholm, or Fastred Fairbairn is Warden of the Westmarch, and custodian of the Towers. The Towers, and Elostirion in particular, are blessed with substantial libraries gifted to the Fairbairns by Cirdan of Mithlond. Elostirion is the repository for the Red Book of Westmarch, and related works, including Translations from Elvish. See "Midgaad Sources" for further details. |
"It is said that the towers of the Emyn Beraid were not built by the Exiles of Númenor, but were raised by Gil- galad for Elendil, his friend; and the Seeing Stone of Emyn Beraid was set in Elostirion, the tallest of the towers" "Thither Elendil would repair, and thence he would gaze out over the sundering seas, when the yearning of exile was upon him; and it is believed that thus he would at whiles see far away even the Towers of Avallónë upon Eressëa, where the Master-stone abode, and still abides." |

The Tower Hills lie to the north of the road from Greenholm to the Gulf of Lhun. This is a thumbnail of my first attempt to map the area around the Tower Hills. The full map is coming soon. |
