* Ongoing work on a
website for my daycare. (Take the pictures, tweak the pictures, upload/caption
the pictures, notify.... rinse and
repeat.)
* Occasionally updating
my journal. (I will write regularly.
Dammit.)
* The Sweater That Will Not End. (I have one more
sleeve to finish knitting, but I'm a little nervous that there might not be
QUITE enough wool, so I'm hemming and hawing about "finishing." Have been for
some time now.)
* A coloring
book of the daycare kids, for the daycare kids. (May never finish it, but the
occasional page goes over quite
well.)
* An iDVD as well, same
as above. (You
so
want an artist working at your daycare. You have no
idea.)
* A baby doll I started
(making it up as I went), but I hinged the legs wrong and threw it in a closet
in disgust. (I've since figured out how to fix it, but haven't actually DONE it
yet.... Also, I don't think I could physically
throw
a baby doll. And I didn't even have Toy Story as a
kid.)
* A drop spindle I made
and a bag of rabbit fur.... Who knows if it'll ever be a
whole
ball of yarn. (I get a pass there - spinning is amazing, but also very hand
intensive... Unless of course I'm doing it
wrong.)
* Knitting squares and
ears so the daycare kids can stuff (and possibly try sewing? some of them,
maybe) their own bunnies during our Summer of Textiles finale
week.
* I have a bunch of
these.... fake red berries (for flower arrangements) that are just dying to
become a crown for my Evil Twin, something akin to the one I wore for my wedding.... (Yeah, we bought the berries before
then... I'm pretty sure.)
* For
several,
SEVERAL
years now I have been, off and on, working on a gargoyle for a dear friend. In
recent years this work has mostly consisted of pulling "Max" out, glaring at him
accusingly as though it's
his
choice to keep having all his limbs fall off like that, and shoving him back in
the closet while I go off researching a new technique to maybe make him work.
(Not to jinx anything, but there is the beginnings of a Max Revival beginning to
take shape. SHUSH!)
* Maybe even
longer ago, my sister gave me this really big bead. It's a sort of near-amber...
whatever amber is before it finishes becoming amber. I'm supposed to be carving
it, and still have every intention of doing so, I'm just afraid to ruin it with
my early attempts at carving such things, and have never been able to settle on
a design. It recently occurred to me that I
could,
were I so inclined, make some samples of the same size and shape out of plaster
and try some things out.
* My
never-ending paper Journal. That one has been getting lots of love in the last
few days.
* Oh, hey? Guess what!
I actually used to
DRAW.
Yeah, I know. Shocking. I'm trying to do that more lately. (The paper Journal
has been helping.)
(Of course there's been lots and lots going
on, but here's at least one thing that's been on my
plate....)
We're finishing up
the Summer Of Farming at the daycare, and moving into a couple weeks of castles
and magic and such, so I've been making bulletin board
decorations....
A
pixie....
A
wizard....
The
princess....
The
castle....
Prince
Charming.....
And
the unicorn....
... I still want
to do a dragon, and maybe a few other mythical
creatures....
CP is starting to
be worried that I'm going to cry when the kids rip these apart, but I've taken
pictures of them, so it's
cool.
Making art for kids is
kind of like sculpting ice, or making one of those sand mandalas the Tibetan
Monks are so fond of... You really have to enjoy the process and make peace with
the temporary nature of the
product.
I've been having fun
making these, and I hope the kids enjoy tearing them to bits.
I spent over 2 1/2 hours on the phone with my
mom tonight...
Free long
distance is a beautiful thing.
I
still have telephone issues, so nobody get all that excited, but K just got the
whole thing working and so spent the day chasing me with the phone, importuning
me to CALL SOMEONE ALREADY.
That
added to this glorious thing called a hhe... hed-sett, and I was calling people
left and right. (Two people counts as "left and right," doesn't it? Two people,
one left, one right... oh
hell.)
Audrey and I talked for a
goodly time as well, and between the two of them I got off the phone feeling
completely charged up and ready to conquer the world. Got a lot done with that
energy too, which is good because the laundry pile was getting pretty
scary.
.... And you know, I
thought I had a lot more to say, but I just lost it all. Oh
well.
Here's a pretty picture
instead.
This one's old, but I pulled it out again
because I want to finally finish it. (I've never been content with the redhead's
left hand.)
... I tried to work in browns, but got
completely stumped.
I like this one
because she's not quite the same woman I seem to always draw.... I think I'll be
doing more with this one, but I have stuff that needs attention right now, so
it'll have to wait.
