After reading the Chinese folktale, "The Empty Pot" by Demi, second graders used their imaginations and some Foohey gel markers to create fantasy flowers sprouting from their mystery seeds.  

Students use contour lines to draw plant stems from their imaginations. Then, using collage, they create symmetrical flowers for the tops of their stems.
