My Sleeveless "Eyelet" Blouse (Summer 2006)

Inspiration:

I love looking at summer clothes when I go shopping or in catalogs - and this season there's tons of cute stuff. So this project came out of that inspiration, a need for more tops that will match with anything, and fabric that was just lying around. Three great reasons to sew! :)

Here's a cute shirt from Fashion Bug that says it all.

Materials:

New Look 6945, printed white and yellow "eyelet" fabric, white muslin for lining, off-white eyelet lace, 5 yellowish buttons.

Construction:

This was a very simple and easy project. The only thing I changed was to lengthen the blouse about an inch and a half, because I'm long waisted and things tend to be too short on me. It worked out great and is the perfect length.

The weird thing about my fabric is that the "eyelet" design is printed on the fabric. When I tried to iron the right side of the fabric the iron would stick and not move, so I had to do all of my pressing on the wrong side of the fabric.

I had a couple of small bugs on this project. One, I sewed the eyelet lace so that the wrong side shows (fortunately it looks fine and the design on the "wrong" side looks pretty neat, really) and I messed up a couple of things when I put it on, but as usual, I was able to hide the boo-boos so that they aren't even visible.

I stayed up late one Friday night finishing this up and was able to find just enough buttons to complete it. Was I happy! :) I really loved this project and highly recommend the pattern.

The Finished Blouse:

I absolutely adore the way this shirt came out. It's really comfy and perfect for this hot weather!
