My Peasant Blouse (Spring 2006)

Inspiration:

It often happens that I have some fabric lying around or buy something unique and pretty at a store and make it into a skirt. So I have lots of pretty skirts hanging around. Unfortunately, lots of my tops are also unique and just don't match well with the skirts. So I really needed a shirt that would match with just about anything. I also wanted a lightweight and comfortable summer shirt and have always loved cute peasant blouses, so when I saw this pattern, I decided to give it a go.

Materials:

Butterick 4685, white muslin fabric, white ribbon, elastic.

Construction:

This pattern went together very quickly and smoothly. Originally I planned to make the casing under the bust, as that style usually looks good on me, but when I put it in, it looked really dreadful. I didn't change anything about the pattern and made up the proper size, so I don't know why there was all this extra fabric between the top of the shirt and the casing. It looked really queer. If I ever decide to try the casing again, I'll put where I think it looks best, rather than following the pattern's instructions.

The only other thing I changed on this shirt was to run ribbon through the top casing instead of elastic. I wanted to be able to adjust it easily, so I could get the best fit possible.

The Finished Blouse:

Sometimes this blouse poofs out unnaturally and makes me look pregnant, but I still think it's really cute. :)
