Inspiration:
Medieval dresses (especially those in peasant style) have always fascinated me, so when I found a pattern that I thought would make a cute dress, I jumped at it! I also was studying Joan of Ark at the time, and so making a dress similar to something she would have worn was really fun for me. |
Materials:
McCALL'S pattern 2337, brown printed cotton for dress, blue cotton for corselet, elastic for neck and sleeves, gold eyelets for corselet, blue cording for lacing.
I was intrigued with this pattern the first time I saw it. This dress was supposed to be a pioneer outfit, but it was so inaccurate that I decided to make it as a medieval peasant dress instead. It makes an excellent nightgown if you wear it without the corselet and Rebekah wears hers to bed every night. |
Construction:
The pattern also included a sunbonnet which I made, for my old sunbonnet that I had worn from when I was really little, was much too small. But I don't like to wear the bonnet with the dress.
Punching the eyelets into the corselet was a real job, and they didn't stay in very well either (I don't know if it was due to my eyelet punch or lack of hand strength :). Occasionally one will fall out and then I have to punch a new one in. Not very fun, but I haven't run into any serious problems yet. |
The Finished Dress:
I made most of this dress by myself around the time I made the apple jumper, but it has gone from my memory as I am getting very old. (Fourteen is such an ancient age! :)
