Inspiration:
When Becky Miller invited us to her Masquerade Ball we decided to make our own masks, instead of buying ones. First of all, it was hard to find ones that we really liked, and secondly, we didn't feel like spending money on something we might not use more than once. |
Materials:
Contruction paper (for lots of tests!), maroon fabric, cream lace, lightweight foam (to mount the fabric mask on), white ribbon (for ties), glue and fraycheck.
|
Construction:
Obviously, this was a very simple project. First I made a zillion tests out of construction paper until I found the shape that I wanted (this was the toughest part - a lot of sweat went into this step :). Then I traced it onto my fabric, cut it out and ran over the edges with fraycheck. Next, I cut the shape out of the lace (which I also fray-checked) and glued the lace onto the fabric. When that was dry I glued the design onto the foam and cut the whole thing out. Lastly, a few ribbon ties were applied and - ta-da! - it was finished! :) |
The Finished Mask:
The only thing I should have done differently on this mask was to make the eye holes bigger - I can hardly see through them! Very impractical for dancing! :)
