July 2005: "Faith of Our Fathers" July 4th Celebration

The Thomas' 3rd Annual 4th of July Celebration was so much fun! The plays were a huge success and everyone had a blast!

The Thomases did a skit on God's providence in History, and we did one called "Buried Memories". It was a comedy and went off really well (I never realized how much fun it is to have 100+ people laughing at you : ).

There was also fife and drum music, and all the children got up on stage and sang "Faith of our Fathers" for the Dads. It was wonderful.

All the boys did a military drill on the front lawn and there were some great family games, including a relay where the family had to fill up a bucket with water. Our whole extended Flynn family did it and it was SO much fun.

Of course, we danced for quite a few hours. What Bliss!!! :)

The whole day was just a perfect blessing from God - even better than I'd imagined it was going to be!

Rebekah waiting for the festivities to begin - isn't she lovely?

I rest my (already) aching feet and chat with Lydia.

Melanie joins the conversation.

The Flynn Trio starts off the show by playing, "Faith of Our Fathers".

We start off our play with an intro by "old irish grandpappy" Pa, giving a lecture on "The FATE of Our Fathers".

Mr. Thomas corrects Pa on the theme of the performance, much to his chagrin.

Now the fun starts.

The Flynn Family Presents:

"Buried Memories"

Mom starts reading in a graveyard while Kate and Maggie play "hide and seek".

Paul (Aidan) comes back from school and tells mom what he learned about "these here dead people".

Mom is awed, and she and the children exit.

A mist rises..

Mary Ball Washington's (Rebekah) ghost rises up and weeps over the trash they teach children these days.

Esther Reed (Me, Amanda) rises and greet Mary.

Together Esther and Mary use Benedict Arnold's gravestone as a table.

Sybil Ludington (Lydia) rises and joins the others in setting the table.

Mercy Otis Warren (Anna) rises up just in time to hear offensive comments from Mary Washington.

Mary apologizes.

James Otis (Pa) rises and joins his sister and the rest of the ASAR (Associated Spirits of the Revolution) at the tea table.

Esther pours the tea.

Mercy reads the roll call and mispronounces her brother's name, due to her bad eyesight.

These same bad eyes cause Mercy to place her gingerbread on Esther's hat.

Esther show off one of the many shirts her society made for soldiers in the revolution.

James Otis dozes during Mary's speech.

James Otis eats the kissing piece. Everyone screeches and they all run off as the groundskeeper's son comes in unexpectedly.

The play goes on a little while, then ends. *grin*

Pa looks so natural in his wig.

Shannon looks so sly in her sunglasses

The men and boys do a piggyback race while the ladies point the way.

Then came a family team water/bucket race!

The entire extended Flynn Family participated!

It was a blast and we did pretty good!

Melanie, Marscel and Lydia enjoy being best friends.

Shannon Patience eats melons on the front steps.

Mom holds Susannah Mercy.

What sweethearts!

At 9:30 pm we're still having fun! Clockwise from me; Melissa, Macaiah, Susannah, Marscel and Me.

Posing: Melanie, Rebekah, Me, and Melissa.
