Fashion Bags (Spring 2007 - Present)

Inspiration:

Where does inspiration for a fashion bag come from? A storefront window; fashion magazine; craft book; latest evening styles? It seems that I'm always being attacked by the handbag bug. If I don't have a current, more-interesting project, I'm obliged to give in and be sick. :)

Embroidered Suede Hobo Tote (Winter 2008):

I used an old Butterick pattern that had been given to me and some leftover fabric from the skirt sample I made for my Joann class (it was just too yummy to waste! :). I lined the bag with coral-colored cotton and used a decorative stitch on my Platinum 770 to create a "surprise lining", which I think is absolutely adorable.

This bag is perfect to take to work - I can keep all my folders, patterns and other stuff (like my purse!) inside. I only wish that I had interfaced the handle for added strength. Although the fabric is very sturdy, I don't want to carry anything too heavy for fear of ripping it.

LOVE THIS BAG. :)

Peach and Ivory Flowered Handbag (Spring 2007):

I used Simplicity 4157 (conveniently hanging around ;) and some neat home dec fabric that I have had for ages. I lined the bag with peach-colored cotton and alternated the fabrics on the bottom of the bag so that the ivory shows on the inside and the peach shows on the out.

I love the way this bag looks, but the open top is not practical for me, as I usually succeed in making a mess of the inside of my bags - sooooo...I may sell it on Etsy. Stay tuned... :)
