My Students' Projects (Summer 2005 - Spring 2006):

Here are some projects that my "students" have made; namely, my sister Anna and cousin Abigail. They've both done an excellant job on their projects and are learning a lot. You guys are so much fun to work with!

This first one is a basic dress made from an old Simplicity pattern. They made these last summer and Anna outgrew her dress pretty quickly. Fortunately, Abi's still fits pretty well, and she was able to model it for our "shoot".

Their second projects were two aprons and won't be outgrown for a long time (my mom borrows Anna's regularly)! They both did a wonderful job on the difficult things like facings and covered buttons.

Mom's Summer Ensemble (Summer 2006):

Mom needed some nice summer clothes that she could mix and match this summer, which is why this outfit came about. The skirt was made first (using Simplicity 5104) and I made the blouse (using Butterick 4685) as a "pregnancy shirt" as it will give her lots of room to grow.

I was surprised at how much mom loves this outfit. I've got to make her some more soon!

The Twins' Winter Dresses (Fall/Winter 2005-06):

Whenever winter rolls around my mom always wants some new cuddly dresses and bloomers for the younger kids - especially the twins. I used McCALL's 4574 and really liked the way they all went together. The twins were so cute as they watched me sewing the dresses, stood still for fittings and were so excited when they were finally complete!

The first two dresses were made in November (2005) and the second two were made in January (2006).

More Family Regency Attire (Summer 2005):

The Thomas' Regency Tea started the sewing bug again! Although most of us had regency outfits from the Fezziwig Ball (see below), For those who didn't yet have a nice accurate regency gown, Rebekah and I set to work.

  • Mom's dress from Fezziwig was too fancy, so I made her a nice every occasion gown from the La Mode Bagatelle Regency pattern. I made the under sleeves detachable so that the dress could be worn for either day or evening events. I loved the fabric and had so much fun making it. It really was a show stopper! It came out so nice and I was thrilled!
  • I made Lydia's dress from the Folkwear Regency pattern, adjusting it slightly so that there were less gathers across the bust and using the shorter sleeve option. Everyone raved about this dress; the colors were perfect for her and Lydia looked gorgeous!
  • Rebekah made Anna's dress from the Sense and Sensibility Regency pattern. At first we thought it looked a little strange on her, but on the day of the tea, with her hair done nicely and all dressed up, she looked really sweet - everyone loved it!

Everyone really liked their dresses, and we had so much fun making them!

Family Colonial Attire (Spring/Summer 2005):

When our family decided to take an extensive part in the Thomas' 4th of July Celebration, we began to make costumes for our whole family. I made everyone's costumes first and then had to stay up until 1:00 the night before the 4th to finish mine. It was crazy - but everything got done!

  • Pa wore his breeches from the Fezziwig Ball and his vest from the 4th of July 2003. We had to take the vest in considerably, as I had made it too large originally. The finished product was great! Rebekah also made Pa a nice shirt out of linen and Pa's Awesome Wig topped it all off!
  • Rebekah made Mom's outfit from the Eagle's View pattern and it went together very well, although we should have hemmed it up a bit higher (we've since corrected the problem).
  • Rebekah's chemise was made by me a few years ago, but she made her skirt and vest. She did an absolutely gorgeous job!
  • I made Lydia's dress and consider it one of my masterpieces. I fit the entire bodice to her, something I've never done before. I've taken things in or out here and there, but I've never taken the seams and totally reshaped the outfit. It went very well and I was really happy with it.
  • I made Anna's dress and it fit her so perfectly! Everything was great, and I therefore have no more to say.
  • Aidan wore one of his billowy shirts that he has, and his breeches from the Fezziwig Ball. Rebekah made his vest for the occasion.
  • Kate and Maggie's dresses were made from a McCall's pattern (I think) that I absolutely loved. Each dress went together in about 4 hours and fit perfectly.
  • We decided not to make anything really accurate for Susannah and Shannon, as they would grow out of it so quickly, so I just made them two cute little jumpers. Although inaccurate, they were absolutely perfect!
  • For a finishing touch I made round-eared caps for all us girls from Kannik's Korner cap pattern. They worked out really well!

Here's the official shots that Lydia and I took:
