My Civil War Cloth Bonnet (Fall 2003)

Inspiration:

I wanted to have something to wear on my head when I was outdoors in my Civil War dress and didn't want to spend a lot of time or money so I made this simple piece of headgear.

Materials:

A pattern traced from my friend's bonnet, leftover fabric from my CW dress, off-white ribbon, cream - colored lace.

I traced the bonnet pattern from one that my friend Melissa Thomas had. She had bought a Civil War dress on eBay and a cute little cloth bonnet came with it. It appealed to me, so I decided to make one like it.

Construction:

It was a very simple project and I would have completed the whole thing in about an hour except for the fact that I didn't have ribbon or lace that I liked and had to buy more. I made the bonnet from the leftover scraps of my Civil War dress and I am very pleased with the results.

The Finished Bonnet:

I may buy or make a more accurate Civil War bonnet in the future but for now this will suffice. It was a little labor, and a lot of fun!

Updates:

I am now aware how inaccurate this bonnet is. Here is my latest attempt at more accurate headgear.
