| Every time I dip into Mark Horne's commentary on the Gospel of Mark I am amazed at how good it is. There's nothing quite like it. I'm preaching through Matthew right now, but the commentaries are all so predicable. You either get too much academic detail or you overdose on "practial applications" that don't ever seem to flow from the text itself. Mark Horne's work, however, helps the reader see nexus between the Hebrew Scriptures, especially the life of David, and Jesus' own person and mission. One gets literary, theological, and practical exegesis in a wonderfully easy to read commentary. |
