| Just some random notes about my weekend. I just returned from 3 days hunting and fishing with my son, Jeffrey. Very nice, sunny fall weather. We were just outside of Mt. Sterling, MO, at property and a cabin owned by John Keane, one of our elders. He's been more than generous to us with the use of his property. He and three of his sons were down there with us for most of the time. We all had a blast - literally at some times of the day. Craig King, a new elder at Twin Oaks, was also there for a while. He brought his recently acquired M-1 Garant. Wow. What a great weapon. We also shot some skeet, .22 pistols, a .17 cal. rifle, and a 9mm pistol. My son and one of the Keane boys spent hours in the woods with their .22's. Exactly the kind of thing I loved to do (and still do) when I was a kid. They shot four or five large bullfrogs on one of the lakes. We cleaned and skinned the legs and fried them up for lunch one day. Fishing was okay. Jeffrey caught a big largemouth bass, over 3 lbs. That was fun. We also caught a few large catfish. While we were gone my wife and middle daughter were in Chicago visiting our oldest. That was the first time they had been to Chicago. They visited the aquarium and did all sorts of fun stuff. All in all, it was a restful, enjoyable weekend. |
