Thirty Years Ago!

This has been an interesting week. My wife and I celebrated our 26th wedding anniversry. What a great marriage we've had. Every time I come home from a session of counseling someone with a troubled marriage I am always so thankful for my wife. We've never had the kinds of problems that so many couples have. That's not to say that we haven't had our share of troubles. There's been a great deal of tension, especially early in our marriage, about finances. But it was never really all that bad, just a nuisance.

Then tonight we went to my 30-year high school reunion. This was pretty disorienting for me. Thankfully, I brought my wife with me so I would have someone to talk to. I graduated with 998 kids in 1975. Hontesly, I did not know the person in front of me and behind me in the procession at graduation day. Add to that the fact that I did not grow up in the Lindbergh school system but transfered in from parochial Lutheran schools in my sophomore year and it's no wonder that I didn't really form any deep friendships. I played football, soccer, and track, but a lot of the "jocks" were not present tonight.

All in all, it was a very strange experience. It was very difficult for me even to recognize old friends. 30 years is a long time. There were only a few people that looked like they haven't changed much.

For those of you who know me now, how much do you think I've changed since high school? You can look at two pictures - one is my senior yearbook picture and the other is me with the varsity track and field team. I'm the second from the left in the front row. No comments about my weight, please.
