My wife found this today in my office. She found it rummaging through a file cabinet. My mom must have given it to me a while back and I forgot about it.
What so interesting about this is that my son is now the same age I was in this picture (11 years old in the summer of 1968); and he's got a baseball game tonight. BTW, I'm #9 in the back row. I picked that number because of Roger Maris (he retired with the Cardinals after the 1968 World Series).
You can't see it every well in the picture, but the patch on our baseball caps has the Golden Arches and "McDonald" written underneath. I don't think they added the "s" until later. We were sponsored by the first McDonald fast-food restaurant in St. Louis. It was down on Watson Road (Rt. 66), just east of River Des Peres.
After the game we would all gather there for a free milk shake. If we won, they would give us all a free order of fries. And for anyone who hit a home run they would get a free All American (hamburger, fries, and a shake). Pretty cool, huh? |
