I've not blogged recently because of my hectic life these past three weeks. In addition to my normal pastoral duties, I begin my two-year service as moderator of Missouri Presbytery this month. And, of course, things have been very quiet in the presbytery for the past two years; but now all . . . . well, you know. Our first presbytery of the year meets next week (Jan. 18). It's amazing how stepping into a new role gives one a new perspective on a familiar reality. In the past, I never really worried about how the presbytery meeting went. In fact, a bit of controversy and debate was rather interesting. Now, I'm working feverishly behind the scenes to makes sure everything runs smoothly, and not just for my sake but for the sake of the health of the presbytery.
In addition to that, I'm leaving for Manipur, India, the day after the presbyter meeting. Our church is sending Tim Werkema and me to help Lian and Clara Tombing. Tim will be teaching music to the orphans there. They will learn how to read line music and play the recorders. This will be new for them. The church has been very generous in giving hundreds of recorders for the children. Tim will also be doing a bit of teaching on church music to the leaders of the presbyterian church there.
I will be lecturing and preaching at a week-long conference for ministers, elders, and deacons on worship, church government, and a bit of eschatology. In between all the other stuff that's going on I've been trying to put together some lectures and sermons for that. Hey, pray for me, please. Also, remember to pray that my family will be safe for the two weeks I'll be out of the country. Even though things are quite hectic, I am thankful for so many opportunities to serve Christ! So I guess the title to this entry should be "My Hectic, But Purpose-Driven Life." 8*)
If I have access to the internet while I'm there, I'll try to post pictures and commentary on this blog. |
