One of my fondest memories of Christmas as a child was lying under the aluminum Christmas tree in the living room. The tree was mounted on a rotating stand. I could just hear the humming of the electric motor as the tree revolved over my head. As the tree turned and I lie on the floor looking up, the color wheel would spin off to the side. The entire effect was quite mesmerizing. As the tree turned over my head, the lower ornaments would approach my head and I could see my reflection waxing and waning in each globular mirror. The colored light would create strange moving patterns on the white ceiling. And I could stay under the tree for long periods of time just day dreaming.
I have wanted one of these old aluminum trees for years. Well, last year a very thoughtful family in our church found one in an antique store, bought it, and gave it to me for Christmas. Wow! What a present. In the picture my son is under it. But I still need to get a rotating stand. I'll have to do that this year. |
