I went to Best Buy on Christmas Eve day to get a final present for my son--Prince of Persia for the Xbox. BTW, it's an amazing game. I knew that going into Best Buy on Christmas Eve would be a zoo, and I was right. The line for checkout was about 200 yards long. It went from the front of the store to the back and then down the back wall. Yes, I stood in line. Anyway, I heard something for the first time. I was standing behind a family of four. The two children were about 5 and 7 years old. On our journey to the cash registers we passed by isles and isles of merchandise. One rack had audio books. Harry Potter imagery caught the attention of the oldest boy. "Mom, look it's Harry Potter!" He knew it wasn't a book, so he asked, "What is it? Can we get it?" The Mother said, "No. It's an audio book, on cassettes." The child looked up at her and said, "What's cassettes?" Without blinking, the mother said, "Oh, they're like the big old video cassettes before DVDs. But the box is smaller, and they only play sound." The child shrugged, looked at the box with a smirk, and moved on.
If he would have asked me, I would have said, "A cassette is like an 8-track, only much smaller." |
