The Making of "Leroy the Choir Guy" Walking Stick
photos by Jennifer Ackerman-Haywood
In the basement workshop at his home in Sparta, Michigan,
Ted Anderson makes his signature walking sticks. There he
was kind enough to show me how me carves faces on each
stick, first clearing the bark from the spot he wants to
work, then roughs out the eyes, nose and mouth, taking time
to shape the beard and mustache. Very quickly I watched a
personality emerge as Ted carved. He let me do a little
carving, too, but I decided to focuse on recording and
photographing and let Ted do his thing. Here are some
images of Ted creating.
