| The new NEW Jedi's Lair | | Date Created: Mar 02, 2006, 11:02 PM |
I've changed my blogging software to RapidWeaver, and have archived this old site. You can find the NEW Jedi's Lair here. |
| Lots of changes coming down the pipe | | Date Created: Jan 31, 2006, 12:11 PM |
Sorry for the lack of updates... I've got multiple excuses:
- Work has been very time consuming lately and though I like updating this blog with reviews and daily doses of geekiness, I like my paycheck even more.
- I've been investigating alternatives to my blogging software (BlogWave Studio's developer has been MIA for a long time, with next version release being pushed back everytime I check his site). Until then, I've been wanting to limit what I post here. Ultimately, I'd like something easy to use, creates cleanly designed sites, allows input of custom HTML in the HEAD tag and within pages themselves (that knocks out iWeb from Apple's iLife suite), allow comment capability through Haloscan, and of course allow me to serve up the RickyCam in a nice manner. So far SandVox may be the ticket.

| Back to the Future 4??? | | Date Created: Dec 21, 2005, 10:27 AM |
According to IMDB, Michael J. Fox is in negotiations to time travel one more time in a final Back to the Future movie. The upshot is that this time he actually wants to play the "Doc Brown" character immortalized by Christopher Lloyd since he's pushing 44. Ummm... somehow I don't see that working... maybe as the new "Doc McFly" yeah...but as "Doc Brown"? I don't think so. |
| MI3 - YAWN? | | Date Created: Dec 12, 2005, 02:20 PM |
The Mission Impossible 3 trailer is now available on the official site. With old pal Ving Rhames and a new cast including Philip Seymour Hoffman, Laurence Fishburn, Billy Crudup, Michelle Monaghan, and Keri Russell... will Tom Cruise be able to pull off another blockbuster or will this one be a good cure for insomnia. We'll find out what Joe Public says on May 5 2006. The poster doesn't inspire much confidence. |
| Foot | | Date Created: Dec 08, 2005, 09:26 AM |
Looks like I may have time to do my delayed reviews today... and transcode some vacation videos for the in-laws. I hurt my left foot yesterday and it's steadily gotten worse. This morning I could barely stand on it and had to hobble around so I decided it wouldn't be a good idea to go to work today.
I've had a cold compress on it since my wife left for work this morning (she thinks it may be broken, but I hope not). The pain is actually between the ball of the foot and where the big toe meets the foot. It's pretty swollen, but no black and blue bruising or other indications. When she gets home from work, I'm probably going to ask her to take me to our doctor to check it out.
Ricky's been licking my foot everytime I take the compress off to switch it to another one from the freezer. I don't know if it's because he's trying to make it feel better, or perhaps he just likes the cold.
UPDATE: Well, my foot isn't broken, but I do have an acute case of Metatarsalgia (Doctor speak for foot pain with an unknown cause). I was prescribed some heavy pain killers and told to stay off the foot for awhile so I took it easy this past weekend. I am at work again today because the foot's feeling better and the swelling has gone down. |

| Die Harder... for a cool $Mill | | Date Created: Nov 14, 2005, 01:32 PM |
Bruce Willis is offering $1Million to anyone that can turn in the top Al-Qaeda leaders including Osama Bin Laden and Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi. The Die Hard actor also laments media coverage of the Iraq war recently on the Rita Cosby: Live and Direct show where he wonders where the stories of the good things that are happening in Iraq are being reported.

| First Rocky and now Rambo back on the big screen?! | | Date Created: Oct 28, 2005, 11:43 AM |
Word came a few days ago that Sylvester Stallone was bringing back Rocky to the big screen (name of the project is currently Rocky Balboa instead of Rocky VI), but now it seems that Stallone, who will be 60 next year, is also bringing back another of his iconic characters, John Rambo. This fourth installment in the Rambo series will be based closer to home with John Rambo laying down some heavy fire in the good ole USA in the search of a little girl. Rambo IV is slated to begin production in the Spring while Rocky Balboa starts production in December. No word yet on whether he'll also be bringing back Cobra II or Over The Top II. |
| Signs of the Apocalypse | | Date Created: Oct 26, 2005, 02:56 PM |
The end is nigh! How do I know? Wesley Snipes and Jean Claude Van Damme are doing a new movie together.
The new "suck-fest" will be called The Hard Corps and will tell the story of how a Boxing Heavyweight Champion butts heads with a (stereotype warning) dangerous Rap Mogul causing the Champ to hire Van Damme and his fellow Afghan and Iraq war vets, "The Hard Corps," to be his body guards. Throw in a cheezy romance between the Champ's sister and the new body guard and you'll pretty much have every overdone plot cliche thrown into this movie.
May whatever powers that be have mercy on our souls.

| Jessica Alba at the Digital Life Expo | | Date Created: Oct 17, 2005, 04:42 PM |
The star of Dark Angel, Sin City, Fantastic Four and Into the Blue was "hands-on" at the Digital Life Expo in NY over the weekend... NO you pervs, I meant she was actually doing something at the expo besides making random nerds swoon and faint. In this case she showed her gamer side by playing on the Xbox during the finals for the Global Gaming League proving that you don't have to be an introverted geek or younger than 15 to do well in console games.

| X-Men coming back to TV again | | Date Created: Oct 17, 2005, 11:24 AM |
Word on the street (or actually at AICN) is that there will be a new X-men series coming to TV, this time focussing on Wolverine. This follows numerous incarnations of the X-men to appear on TV from old Marvel Hour specials through the "Jubilee" era cartoons to the Evolution. No word if this new X-men series will coincide with the launch of the next X-men movie, but the series is slated to arrive in 2007. |

UNICEF has a new shocking commercial/public service announcement to be aired on Belgian TV after 9pm that portrays the Smurfs being carpet bombed with Smurfette and others as casualties... leaving baby Smurf to cry on the cratered and devastated village alone. As part of its campaign against the effects of warfare on innocent children, UNICEF (the United Nations Children Fund) actually got permission from the late Smurf's creator "Peyo"'s family, who lives in Belgium, to use the Smurfs in their PSA.

| Over the Hedge | | Date Created: Oct 06, 2005, 10:16 AM |
A new CGI animated feature is set to debut next May from DreamWorks Animation called Over the Hedge based on the Michael Fry and T Lewis sunday comic of the same name (example here). It will star the voices of Bruce Willis, Garry Shandling, Nick Nolte, Catherine O'Hara, Steve Carell, Eugene Levy, William Shatner, Wanda Sykes, Avril Lavigne, and Allison Janney. In the comedy style of Shrek and Madagascar, it tells a tale of how a conartist racoon named R.J. (Bruce Willis), a timid turtle named Verne (Garry Shandling), and friends deal with suburbia encroaching on their forest home. It seems that Jim Carrey was originally slated for the role of R.J., but Willis fills the role nicely.
This one looks pretty good to me!
The trailer is available now at OverTheHedgeMovie.com. |
| Kal-el Coppola Cage | | Date Created: Oct 05, 2005, 10:19 AM |

In honor of weird celeb naming conventions, new parents Nicolas Cage and his wife Alice Kim Cage have decided to name their newly born son by combining his daddy's last name, the last name of Cage's filmmaker uncle Francis Ford Coppola, and the true first name for a certain last son of Krypton. Kal-el Coppola Cage was born happy and healthy on October 3rd.

| Peter Jackson takes on Halo | | Date Created: Oct 05, 2005, 05:28 AM |
Word is quickly spreading through the 'net that Peter Jackson has officially announced that he is going to produce the Halo movie along with his ever-present sidekick Fran Walsh. No word yet on whether he's going to direct, but he usually does for movies he produces (LOTR trilogy and King Kong). He has also stated that he's a "gaming fan" and promises to stay true to the game. His old friends at WETA will create what will undoubtedbly be another round of edgey specialFX for the flick. Universal in association with FOX and Microsoft will back this one. I for one hope that they don't screw this movie up.

Nicole Kidman has another new comedy heading our way from Fox2000 and Regency Enterprises called Headhunters. In this one she'll play one of four NJ girls looking to get rich husbands in Monte Carlo by posing as rich heiresses... instead they meet up with four down-on-their-luck gigolos posing as wealthy playboys. |
Ann-Margret will costar in Santa Clause 3. Tim Allen will reprise his jolly red coated role to save Xmas (yet again) this time vs. Jack Frost played by Martin Short. |
Billy Bob Thronton, Jon Heder, and Jacinda Barrett will star in a remake of the 1960 Brit comedy School for Scoundrels. Expect Bizarre Love Triangle style hijinks here. |
| Jennifer Love Hewitt sees dead people... oh and on TV too! | | Date Created: Sep 23, 2005, 11:48 AM |
It seems Jennifer Love Hewitt has been type cast into her current role on CBS' Ghost Whisperer. You see, she actually talks to the dead in real life as well. Revealed to the speechless hosts of The View, Hewitt talked about her encounters with the other side including two who haunted her home and an old departed friend who talks to her in the form of dragonflies....umm...yeah...ok.
Not to say I don't believe her... no really... but COME ON!!! I mean I've had my own spectral and mysterious encounters. I just don't talk to them on a regular basis... through insects.

In these troubled times of nature's fury and devastation, the Church of Scientology has decided to tackle what they deem as the most important issue before us today: Kate Moss' drug problem. With Ms. Moss' recent public apology for her wild cocaine binge (or at least getting caught on film), Scientologists are reaching out to the model saying they can cure her ills by way of their Narconon drug treatment program. Anyone else think this will be Tom Cruise's next "acquisition" in the name of Xenu once he's done brainwashing Katie Holmes... oh sorry... Kate Cruise?

The new full Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire trailer is now available at Moviefone. Get it Here. Though it shares a few bits from the teaser trailers and the International trailer, for the most part this is completely new and full "trailer" length. Good stuff (unless you want to go into the movie "unspoilt").

| Enter the Bosnian Dragon | | Date Created: Sep 12, 2005, 10:30 AM |
In an attempt to bring together the divided Bosnian City of Mostar after years of war and animosity, the city will erect a statue to symbolize unity among the factions. A statue of Kung Fu legend Bruce Lee. It seems that in Bosnia, he's worshipped by Muslims, Serbs, and Croats alike.
From Reuters:
A group of enthusiasts came up with the idea of honoring the childhood hero of the city’s ethnic groups in 2003, on the 30th anniversary of his death. They launched the project, found donors and waited a year for the city’s approval.
“We plan to erect the statue in November in the center of the city,” Veselin Gatalo, a member of the Urban Movement organization, told Reuters by telephone on Monday.
“This will be a monument to universal justice that Mostar needs more than any other city I know.”
He said Mostar, scene of fighting between Muslims and Croats in 1993-1994, needed a symbol of justice, mastery and honesty -- virtues upheld by the late Chinese-American actor.
Born in San Francisco, Lee starred in several kung fu movies, including 1973’s “Enter the Dragon”. He died at the age of 32 from swelling on the brain.
A German organization agreed last year to sponsor the project with a 5,000 euro ($6,162) grant.
The statue, cast in bronze and showing the martial arts master in a typical fighting pose, will be designed by a local sculptor and put up in central Mostar.
Lee’s widow Linda will be invited to attend the ceremony.

| Kate Cruise | | Date Created: Sep 09, 2005, 08:27 PM |
In the ongoing scientologist trainwreck saga that is the Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise romance, it's been reported that Katie Holmes will change her name to Kate Cruise adopting her husband-to-be's last name. According to In Touch magazine, "Tom calls her Kate, so he suggested she start going by that professionally."
More info can be found at The Superficial where you can also find this:
|
As if the 16-year age gap wasn't creepy enough, I would like to remind you all that Cruise has effectively named his fiance Kate Cruise. He has named her. Gave her his last name, then went, "Aaaand everybody's going to call you Kate from now on because I like it and Xenu wished that it be so."
Hmm. Maybe this will lead to some sort of gender-inverted Oedipus situation, in which case I am all for it. Any move that ends in Tom Cruise hanging himself and Katie Holmes gouging her eyes out with his decorative pins is a step in the right direction, as far as I'm concerned. But hey, I'm a romantic.
Friggin HILARIOUS...man, I love that site.
