Consultant III

Position involves internal consulting to MIT IS’s Office Computing Practice. I report to the head of Office Computing Practice, and am assigned to various projects as needed. Responsibilities include determining best way to ensure project is completed in the best manner for MIT. Current primary project is designed to assist departments in migrating to Windows 2000, and decide if they wish to join the main MIT Active Directory Domain, or establish independent domains. Create documentation and procedures for both decisions. I also help out on other IS projects as I am able. These include Mac OS X deployment planning and creating a procedure to integrate Mac OS X with the Open AFS file system.

IT Manager

Responsibilities included all day to day upkeep of MIT PD systems including Dictaphone phone systems, RS/6000 systems, desktop systems, internal network and server infrastructure. Created plan for redesign of network to take better advantage of existing infrastructure, reduce operating costs, increase security, decrease viral risks, and upgrade desktop systems and implementation of same. This included a complete physical upgrade of all existing desktop systems, a new server architecture and setup, the implementation of a firewall to further protect privacy data, the increased use of online resources, such as email, PDF forms, etc. This upgrade will also allow for easier integration with the mobile computer systems purchased for cruisers.

Training and Unix Specialist

Responsibilities included teaching and designing professional seminars for all aspects of the Macintosh platform. Doing this required I be up to date and experienced with all aspects of Macintosh computing, including Mac OS X, Mac OS X Server, and Unix/Windows integration of same. Course design, and critique evaluation were also a critical part of my duties, along with research in the taught fields to ensure that we were teaching current information. As well, I was responsible for researching cross-platform integration issues so that the information from that research could be integrated into the curriculum. This included issues like Active Directory/LDAP issues, security, etc.

Mac/PC Administrator

Responsibilities included administration of AER’s multiplatform network consisting of Sun, SGI and Linux workstations, X86 - based workstations running Windows 2000, NT, 98, and Apple workstations. Primary responsibility was for the non-Unix systems which include desktop, laptop, and Palm devices. Administration duties included configuration, installation, and maintenance of non-Unix systems. This also included testing various pieces of software that could be of use to AER. Other duties involved the creation of custom AppleScripts to assist in running the AER network. Supervisor for PC technician working for AER. Secondary technical duties were Unix system and telephony support.

Projects I ran included the migration of AER’s non - Unix systems to a 99% pure TCP/IP networking model, including printing and filesharing, the implementation of a network management system centered around netOctopus from Netopia, allowing for automation of both Mac and Windows administration duties, the implementation of a Mac OS - based external web and FTP server, giving AER a secure point of contact for current and potential clients, the implementation of a FileMaker Pro - based intranet, so that AER’s employee, journal, and library contents could be dynamically made available to all employees. Other projects include the installation of Citrix Metaframe systems, planning and implementing the migration of all Windows platforms to Windows 2000, and planning the migration of all Mac OS platforms to Mac OS X

Responsible for setting up infrastructure around the Edify Electronic Workforce interactive response system for service bureau applications as well as client site installations. Includes both local and remote technical support, Systems integration of the OS/2 based Edify systems with multiple hosts, (Mainframe, IBM AS/400, DEC VAX, IBM RS/6000), Servers, (Windows NT, Novell v3.X/4.X, IBM Warp Server), Networks, (TCP/IP, NetBIOS, SNA, Ethernet, Token-Ring), and Databases, (DB2/MVS, DB2/400, DB2/2, Oracle 7.1/7.2, Microsoft SQL*Server, xBase), as well as hardware integration of Hewlett-Packard, IBM, and Compaq PC servers with Client -Site setups. Internal responsibilities include internal IS support, upgrades and maintenance for ECS Data Processing systems including Alpha NT servers, Alpha VMS servers, OS/2 voice servers, and all PCs. Also responsible for programming, project development, project integration, disaster recovery, upgrades and maintenance.

IVR Programmer

Responsible for programming on the Edify Electronic Workforce Interactive Voice response system. Included conferring with company management for application ideas, setting up project timelines, all Edify programming, working with database programmers to interface Edify with Clipper and Oracle databases, working with network engineers to interface Edify with Novell 3.12 , 4.1 and TCP/IP LANs. Edify IVR programs allowed client companies to access and update COBRA benefits information at an individual as well as company level. Responsible for programming Edify to reply live on the phone as well as via fax-back or Email.

Responsible for user support/network design & support, and hardware/software design and support in WAN/LAN network. Operating systems used include: OS/2 2.11 and Warp, (include. Warp Connect and Warp 4), OS/400 V3R1, AIX 3.2.x, MS-DOS 3.3 and greater, Microsoft Windows 3.0 and greater, including Windows 95, and MacOS 6.0.x through 7.5.2. User support duties include hardware, applications software, operating systems, networking hardware and software, and telephony hardware and software. Responsible for operating, maintaining, and upgrading all city computer hardware, which included multiple platforms and operating systems. Responsible for evaluating new personal and network software/hardware, application development tools/languages, computer and telephony hardware. Also responsible for project initiation, study, development, budgeting, and completion. Other duties/responsibilities include: telephone switch maintenance, (Siemens Saturn PBX) and programming, Edify Electronic Workforce voice applications programming, and designing custom scripts/applications in REXX, DOS batch language, Aspect, and AS/400 Control Language.

Avionics / Communications / Navigation Technician AFSC 45773C

Shift supervisor, responsible for maintenance and upgrades of over twenty-five electronics and avionics systems on B–1B aircraft. Supervisor for seven people on the shift, and directly evaluated three people on mine and other shifts. Other supervisory duties included training of junior personnel, inventory control for over one billion dollars of equipment. Designed training plans for my shift and others, and served as flight line maintenance supervisor for shift.
