Autodialer for Skype® SoftPhones

Usage

Enter phone numbers into your Apple Address Book normally. Click on a phone number tab or control mouse click on a phone number and you will be presented with the option to dial the number with Skype.

Unless you have set the property UseSkypeOutP to false during installation, this script will offer to dial PSTN numbers with Skype. Otherwise, it will not offer the option to use Skype with PSTN numbers.

You can call other Skype users by entering their Skype usernames into the Apple Address Book as SIP URIs in the format:

sips:UserName-or-Number@skype.com.
For example, you would enter sips:Niklas@skype.com to call a Skype user whose login name is Niklas.

Just like https and http, sips indicates an encrypted call end point. This URI syntax enables you to clearly determine which contacts you can call with encryption. Use of sips URIs in your Address Book distinguishes Skype-to-Skype calls and avoids confusion with PSTN numbers or sip URIs associated with other VOIP providers or direct IP connections.

If you are using Apple Address Book 3.1.2 or earlier, you may need to turn off "Automatically Format Numbers" in the application preference pane under "Phone". Apple's formatter does not understand sip or sips URIs.

Have fun!
