- Rick Mayer Cycle saddle
This is my second Rick Mayer saddle. My first was on my previous 2002 R1150RS. By the time the RS had given up the ghost, I had almost 100 k mi on the saddle, and it looked as good then as it did on the day it was made and was as comfortable as ever. Ten- to 14-hour days in that saddle were no problem.
When I bought the RT (to replace the RS), I thought I would try to keep everything stock on the bike. I soon found, however, that the stock saddle reached the limit of its comfort in a couple of hours. Thus, it was a no-brainer for me to opt for another Rick Mayer saddle. Even new, the Mayer saddle was very comfortable on my 2.5 hour ride home from his shop. I'm looking forward to many long miles in it.
Rick makes a superb, custom saddle that is topped only by his superb customer service. He treats his customers as individuals and like family. If you get a chance to ride in to his shop/home, do it, even if only to visit. Rick is very welcoming and you will not regret it. If you're looking for a custom saddle, I cannot recommend anything but a Rick Mayer Cycle custom saddle.
Here are a few pictures of my recent visit to Rick's shop. My RT is the one with the yellow and black stickers on the back of the side cases. In the second picture from the left is a gentleman from Minden, NV, checking out my bike. He had ridden in with his wife, both on GSs; his wife was getting a saddle made. Also there for saddles were a gentleman who had ridden in from Oakland, CA, (on a GS) and a Marine gunny who had ridden in from (I can't remember where he is stationed in) Utah on an FJR (he is a crewman on a C-130). Later, another gentleman from Sparks, NV, rode in on a V-Strom to have a saddle made. The third picture shows Rick and me (I'm the shorty) with the new saddle on the RT.
Postscript: Fast forward one week. After a very nice Mother's Day brunch with our three girls, my wife and I took a couple-of-hour ride in the afternoon. It was a beautiful ride, and it gave my wife a chance to try out the new saddle. The verdict: two thumbs up! She likes it as much as she did our previous Rick Mayer Cycle saddle.
