The Humanities: A Definition |
The Humanities: Course Description |
plural: the branches of learning (as philosophy, arts, or languages) that investigate human constructs and concerns as opposed to natural processes (as in physics or chemistry) and social relations (as in anthropology or economics).
from Merriam-Webster Dictionary
|
The Humanities is a course about everything: the universe and the intelligent beings who inhabit it; and how to think about the meaning of it all. This course will include an introduction to the fine arts, including architecture, music, drama, cinema, and the visual arts. It will show how every one of those art forms reflects the worldview of culture in which it was created. Students will learn to penetrate these mysteries for themselves as they confront any creative work. |
