Artist’s Comments: Mr Arnold is a self-taught artist, developing his detailed realistic style over many years of working with, first, the interest in drawing from his school days, then to a fascination with color and painting.
By observation and experience, this artist has developed an awareness of the great wealth of subject matter which exists around us in York County and surrounding areas. An interest in all forms of buildings and architecture, coupled with a life-long affection for the rolling landscapes of Pennsylvania and Maryland, are evident in many of his works.
This artist’s attention to detail is probably due in part to his vocation, which is Electronics Engineering, being employed some 35 years in exacting Research and Development work, first at Bendix-York, and for the past 16 years at International Signal and Control, Lancaster.
Arnold’s interest in steam engines and railroading comes from several generations of rairroaders on his father’s side. His railroad paintings were developed from photos taken in the forties with the old box camera.
Over the years this prolific artist has had a number of one-man shows. He has participated in local shows such as the Annual River Walk Festival and the Penn State Show.
Membership in the Hanover Area Arts Guild is Arnold’s group activity, displaying at this dynamic organization’s shows and theme oriented events.
The artist and his wife, Sylvia, always carry the
35mm
camera with them on trips, keeping a keen eye open for still another
interesting
painting subject.
