Academic Plan: May 1st through 24th
Standardized testing is over, but there's still
plenty to do in Language Arts...
On Monday, May 1st we will begin a novel study that
will be our primary focus through the end of the year. For approximately three
weeks we will be reading and analyzing
Roll of Thunder, Hear My
Cry by Mildred D. Taylor. We will also continue
our Daily Grammar Practice and Sustained Silent Reading during this novel unit.
There will be several individual and group classwork activities, three pop
quizzes, and three writing assignments completed as part of the unit. After we
finish the novel we will watch the video of the story, compare the two, and
complete a test on the material. Also, mark your calendars...we will have our
team field trip on May 15th! It's sure to be a blast! And finally, we will spend
the final few days of the year reviewing the AKS we have studied through a
series of Jeopardy and Brain Brawl sessions with prizes and refreshments, take
our AKS post test and a comprehensive final exam, and stage a poetry
slam/literature celebration as the culminating activity for Language Arts. This
should be a fantastic end to a productive and exciting year!
