Team Policies

Classroom
Expectations
1. Students will enter
classroom quietly, with prepared materials, and begin daily
work.
2. Students will stay in their
assigned seats, while keeping their hands and objects to
themselves.
3. Students will show respect
to others by speaking in moderate tones, listening completely to others’
ideas, and waiting their turn to
speak.
What Happens If
Expectations Are Not Met?
If a student disrupts the academic learning process
within the classroom, a series of reminders and consequences will
follow:
* Verbal
warning
* Silent
Lunch
* Parent will be notified after second
silent lunch
* After receiving three silent
lunches, the next offense will result in a teacher detention; parent will be
notified
* Two teacher detentions will result
in an administrative referral; parent conference will be scheduled following the
second detention
Certain behaviors will
result in immediate consequences. These behaviors include, but are not limited
to, being disrespectful, and
fighting.
Gum and
Candy
Eating candy or chewing gum is
against school policy. An exception is made when the teacher uses candy for
rewards. In that case, the student should finish the candy before leaving that
class.
Agenda
Book
At Shiloh Middle School, each
student is issued a student agenda book at the beginning of the school year. We
expect the agenda book to be in the student’s possession at all times. The
agenda book serves several purposes. It is the student’s daily calendar
and assignment record book. It serves as a hall pass. It is a communication
tool between teachers and parents. It serves as a record that the student has
been to the clinic. NO STUDENT SHOULD BE IN THE BUIDLING BEFORE 8:55 WITHOUT A
SIGNED
AGENDA.
Homework
Homework
will be assigned on a regular basis. The purpose for such an assignment may be
to practice concepts learned in class, complete unfinished class work, prepare
reports/projects, and extend learning beyond the
classroom.
It is recommended that a
student spend at least one hour each day in a structured study-time situation.
During this structured study time, students should be monitored by a parent and
be free from distractions. A student who has no written assignments may use
this time to organize a notebook, clean out the book bag, review notes, practice
areas of weakness, read, make vocabulary flashcards for all subjects, or read
and summarize a magazine or newspaper
article.
Missing
Work
Make-Up Work: In accordance with
county policy, a student will be given two days to complete any missed
assignments for every day of absence. It is the student’s responsibility
to schedule a time before or after school to make up any tests or quizzes that
may have been missed.
Late Work:
Classwork assignment and project due dates will vary. If a student fails to
complete or turn in an assignment or project by the due date, a 10% penalty will
be deducted if the work is turned in the following day. Credit will not be given
on assignments turned in two or more days late. The late work policy does not
apply to
homework.
Correspondence
It
is the student’s responsibility to transport all letters and forms between
home and school. This correspondence includes, but is not limited to, report
card envelopes, deficiencies, behavior reports, and detention
notices.
Extra
Help
Scheduled team tutoring will
take place on Fridays starting at 8:15. However, if you need extra help at any
time, please discuss the matter with the teacher. We will be happy to make
special arrangements if our schedules allow for it. Language arts help is
available each morning with Ms. Ansley; Ms. Murray will provide math tutoring
each morning.
Reward System:
Friday Surprise
Throughout the year,
students will have the opportunity to earn reward coupons. The coupons will be
issued for positive behavior and classroom success. Each Friday students who
acquired five coupons will be able to turn them in for a surprise. Our team will
greatly appreciate any donations towards the positive reward system. Examples
include individually wrapped candy, crackers, chips,
etc.
We are looking forward to getting to
know you as we work together throughout the year. We hope you are ready for a
school year that will offer a variety of possibilities and opportunities for you
to open your mind and discover new things. Please do not hesitate to ask us
questions and express concerns. We are here to help and support
you!
Sincerely,
Jay
