Here's the press: Grammy Award Winner Mark Hanson An accomplished fingerstyle guitarist, Grammy winner Mark is an experienced performer, composer, and recording artist. His recordings are heard regularly on NPR, and on syndicated radio and television programs, such as Martha Stewart Living and West Coast Live. Mark contibuted two pieces to 2004’s Pink Guitar CD, a tribute to Henry Mancini, that won a Grammy award for best Pop Instrumental album. Called by A Prairie Home Companion’s Pat Donohue “...perhaps the greatest teacher of fingerstyle guitar,” Mark is a prolific author and publisher in the guitar education field. He and his wife Greta Pedersen formed Accent On Music, LLC, in 1985. Since then, Mark has authored over 30 books, videos and DVDs on many aspects of guitar playing, distributed by Warner Brothers and Music Sales Corp. Four of his titles were included in Acoustic Guitar magazine's Top 100 guitar publications. His articles appear in Acoustic Guitar, Guitar World Acoustic, and Fingerstyle Guitar magazines. In the '80s, Mark was an editor and columnist at Frets magazine, interviewing such luminaries at James Taylor, David Crosby, Jorma Kaukonen, and Leo Kottke. Each August, Mark and Greta host the Accent On Music Fingerstyle Guitar Seminar in Portland. At the culmination of the weeklong event, Mark shares the stage with his fellow instructors, who have included Tommy Emmanuel, John Renbourn, Laurence Juber, Guy Van Duser, Donohue, Peppino D'Agostino, Muriel Anderson, Pat Kirtley, and Alex de Grassi. Mark's most recent release is his solo fingerstyle CD Author's Notes. The 14 tunes include 10 original compositions, plus Mark's beautiful arrangements of Ray Charles" You Don't Know Me," the folk classic "The Water Is Wide," and a band rave-up of Motown's "Heard It Through the Grapevine." Mark Hanson concerts are enjoyable affairs, highlighted by blazing fingerpicking, haunting ballads, fun songs, and Mark’s good humor. Stories of the music “biz” are educational and fun, and there may even be a bit of audience participation!
Tim Farrell
Tim Farrell's music expresses an elegant simplicity that celebrates the pure beauty of the acoustic guitar. It is a sound that has the power to captivate, intrigue and inspire. As an accomplished fingerstyle guitarist, Tim continually breaks new ground. He has been described as "one of the new trailblazers," a musician with the unique ability to entertain an audience and inspire future generations of players. His playing infuses craft, technique, and melodic substance to create a style that transcends genre. "Tim Farrell stands apart from the numerous guitar slingers out there. [He is] a guitarist to be heard." As a musician Tim has the rare ability to inspire listeners to experience music on a multitude of levels. Through his mastery of the intricacies and melodic grace of fingerstyle guitar, he has created a sound that evokes emotion - a sound that is to be felt as well as heard. As a performer Tim has entertained audiences from coast to coast. He maintains an active performing schedule, appearing in a variety of concert venues - including the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, PA and the Nashville Convention Center. Tim has also performed at many benefit concerts, festivals, workshops, and corporate events. Tim has shared audiences with such notable artists as Les Paul, George Benson and Derek Trucks. His music receives regular airplay on both commercial and public radio stations throughout the country. For example, Tim has performed as a featured artist on the World Café and Echoes, two popular syndicated programs heard on hundreds of stations nationwide through Public Radio International. Tim Farrell is one of the select artists on the roster of the Pennsylvania Performing Arts On Tour (PennPAT) - an organization that provides grant money to help non-profit venues fund concerts and residency programs. As a composer Tim writes "memorable melody lines that go beyond technique," says Billboard magazine. And according to NAV Magazine, "Tim Farrell's melodies lay easily on the ear." Tim has written many works for the guitar - both as a solo instrument and as part of an ensemble with other instruments. His full-length CDs showcase the considerable depth of his composing skills. In addition, Tim has written music for TV and radio shows, multi-media presentations, soundtracks, and interactive theater productions. As an educator Tim is teaching a new generation of musicians to develop a deeper knowledge, enjoyment, and appreciation of music. As a guest educator at various institutions, Tim conducts workshops, seminars, and discussions about the role of music in our culture. He can create customized residency programs - as well as help to establish goals and objectives - to fit the specific needs of a school or organization's curriculum. Tim is also a distinguished faculty member of the Doylestown School of Music and the Arts in Doylestown, PA, where he provides individual lessons and conducts interactive workshops in Fingerstyle Guitar, Composition, and Songwriting.
