A description of these letters

Letters between my grandparents in 1937

We find it hard to fathom what people had to do to survive back in the depression. I hope these letters will shine some light on how people lived, dreamed and hoped in the 30's

The year was 1937 and my Grandmother was traveling to Philadelphia with her mother for treatment of an abscess in her throat. A young wife and mother in the big city during the depression. I hope to upload all the letters between her and my grandfather back in Owego NY taking care of the chicken farm while she was away. These were hard times. Harold and Marie had been married for 10 years and so far had two young sons; Bob (my father) and Richard (who will die in 1942 of an allergic reaction to ether while undergoing and appendectomy.) We find it hard to fathom what people had to do to survive back in the depression. I hope these letters will shine some light on how people lived, dreamed and hoped in the 30's
