| About Me | Jason Romney is National Manager of Commercial Strategy at Telstra BigPond, the leading Australian Internet Service Provider and media company (note: the Netvideo publication is Jason's private, non-profit undertaking and in no way reflects the view of Telstra or BigPond).
He has recently been working as a barrister at the Victorian Bar, based in Melbourne, Australia, but has returned to Telstra to help build it into a 21st century media company.
Jason's background spans publishing and online services as well as law. (See: http://www.lennonslist.com.au/033a.htm)
While practising law he writes for numerous Australian magazines and newspapers. Jason has worked in senior media management roles both in Australia and overseas. He was also the founder and chief executive of one of Australia's pioneering interactive agencies, itvworld.com.
Jason has previously been Chief Editor for Microsoft's MSNBC television and Internet service, Associate Editor (Computers) at the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper, and Computer and Arts Editor for The Herald and Herald Sun newspapers. Before founding itvworld.com, Jason was Group Manager of Portal Content and Applications at Telstra, a telecommunications company in Australia.
itvworld.com commercialised the InOrbit interactive television service management system it developed after winning a $1,350,000 AusIndustry DIST grant, with major customers worldwide including the BBC in the UK. The company also developed hundreds of widely syndicated interactive video programs, and created a world-leading digital rights management solution (developed after itvworld twice won a Telstra Broadband Development Fund Grant).
Jason has continued to publish widely throughout his corporate and legal practice, including regular columns for the Australian Financial Review and InTheBlack magazine, as well as a book, Law On The Line (ISBN: 0-644-45996-4), and this Web site.
Jason's public engagements so far in 2006 have included: an address to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation at its cross-media summit about the future of the Australian media industry; chairing and presenting at the Australian Broadcasting Summit; and conferences across Australia for the Australian Film, TV and Radio School's Australian Centre for Screen Business.
