Dubai enjoys a strategic geography at the cross roads of East and West - and enlightened government policies to stimulate the digital media companies that choose to go there. In this interview, Mr Santosh Hejmadi, who specialises in fostering the interests of digital media industries in Dubai, explains the Dubai Government's plans.
Mr Hejmadi represents Dubai bodies including the Internet City, the Media City, the Knowledge Village, the International Media Production Zone, the Outsource Zone, the Dubai Biotechnology and Research Park and Dubai Studio City. While it is generally understood that Dubai is a stable corporate base with an attractive, cosmopolitan quality of life, the actual heterogeneity of these digital media zones is not as widely recognised.
Mr Hejmadi describes particular innovations such as the Dubai Internet City, and The Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone which promotes cross pollination between the film, TV, game and mobile content industries by delivering the infrastructure, media knowledge and training opportunities that the industries need. He describes how, on December 1, the Dubai Film Festival was launched and is a good example of how Dubai bridges cultures and helps minds meet in the media, entertainment and technology area.
