 Why are fewer Australian films being made? And what are the barriers to success for the ones that are made? The Australian Managing Director of Buena Vista International, Alan Finney, gives his views about the health of the Australian Film Industry and how movie distribution is becoming more complex. What tactics should be used to deal with film piracy, peer-to-peer networks and the arrival of aggressive new IPTV players? How do these development affect the film distribution value chain's incumbent players?
Mr Finney talks about the affect on cinema attendance of ever higher quality home theatre technology and the time drain posed by games and the Internet. He explores whether movies are somehow worth less (following PBL's recent downgrade of the value of its movie library) and how the different distribution "windows" are changing quickly.
