What was new at the National Association of Broadcasters in Las Vegas?

How is the international television broadcasting industry reacting to peer-to-peer TV show broadband file sharing piracy, new 3G video delivery networks, vlogging and new interactive techniques? The National Association of Broadcasters tradeshow and conference, held annually in Las Vegas, USA, is the place to find out. Netvideo's correspondent from Informitv, Dr William Cooper, describes new industry developments in detail in our latest show. We start with some comments from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) about how significant the digital changes are to the conventional ways the TV industry has acted. Then Dr Cooper takes us through issues ranging from the new high-definition Final Cut Pro 5 launch to the new approach of TV/broadband network operators which are moving from so-called "triple play" tactics, to "fourplay" strategies. And with news just out that Australia is about to gain access to more than 100 new TV-over-IP TV channels, delivered via broadband courtesy of Singapore/California company, M2B World, the issues Dr Cooper discusses have never been more pressing. We hope to speak with M2B later this week about its proposed channel line up for Australia, its pricing, its 3G distribution plan and its worldwide experience. Meanwhile, Telstra's new plan to offer 1000 TV shows, movies and sports programs via broadband, may be a first step to oblivion for the TV networks - at least with younger audience members who are more flexible in their consumption habits and don't mind branching out from the TV to the PC, Mac and mobile phone as their viewing device. Intriguingly, Telstra Media managing director, Gerry Sutton, has apparently acknowledged his team's recent Hollywood mission to secure broadband distribution rights for TV shows and films...
