Apple Tiger (OSX 10.4) has hit the global market with a spectrum of new features. In this interview, Netvideo assesses the value proposition of Spotlight (the new hard disk searching utility - comparing it with Isys and InfoSelect for Windows), QuickTime 7's support for H264 (a boon for vloggers targetting video-capable mobile phones), the new Widget toolset in Dashboard, Safari RSS (bringing you only the changes in Web sites) and the now multi-screen capable, iChat AV.
We talk to MyMacAustralia.com.au's Jason Swifte about these features, and the sundry backing up issues before you take the leap to upgrade. We compare Tiger with Windows XP and discuss the existing Apple applications that will struggle to survive given how Tiger reproduces their functionality and arguably renders them obsolete. Finally we review the state of cornerstone utilities such as Alsoft DiskWarrior and Micromat TechTools Pro 4, in terms of their current Tiger compatibility.
The Quicktime version for Mac users is here and the Flash Video version for PC users is here. |
