Indian Summer Heritage Festival, Saturday, Oct. 24!

The Indian Summer Heritage Festival will be held in Helena, Texas at the Karnes County Museum on Saturday, October 24, 2009 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Music, dance, food, children’s activities, tours and demonstrations will be offered throughout the day.

Everyone is welcome, and admission is free.

Colorful and exciting performances by the Fiesta Ballet Folklorico of Beeville will showcase the costumes, music, and dance unique to Southwestern heritage.
Alicia Caballero, the KCHS Drum Corp, and the KCHS Highsteppers will perform at various times throughout the day.

The Helena Quilters will demonstrate an old-fashioned Quilting Bee in the historic Sickenius House, and many prized quilts will be on exhibit.A raffle is also being held, with the prize drawing on the day of the festival. Proceeds will benefit the restoration efforts of the Historical Society.

In the old Post Office, our traditional Sweet Shoppe will offer delicious homemade cakes, cookies, kolaches and more, while concession stands will sell soft drinks, water, BBQ on a bun, and hot dogs. Picnic tables on the shady museum grounds are the perfect place to enjoy lunch or a snack.

Children will enjoy a variety of activities, including face painting, hula hoops, a petting zoo and even a ham radio station. Special guests this year are the Poth Girl Scouts, who will conduct the opening ceremonies at 10 a.m.

This annual family-oriented event is sponsored by the Karnes County Historical Society. Helena is located just six miles north of Karnes City at the junction of SH 80 and FM 81.
