Canyon de Chelly, CBS Pilot Show Filming: when we got to our last stop on the tour, the White House Ruins, we were surprised to find a large filming crew on site. They hurriedly had us park our truck out of sight, near some Navajos who were also waiting, holding the reins of their horses - we were all stranded, at the mercy of the cameras and the light! What was going on, we asked - they were filming a pilot television show for CBS, one of the hands said. What's the name of the show, I asked - no one knew.

Cameras to the left of us...cowboys to the right...

...yellow circle on the ground...young couple getting instructions...

Oops! A dog wanders on to the "set" - everyone rushes to shoo him away.

The first partner runs down the path to pick something out of a barrel...

Ack! It's a snake! She runs back and puts it on the yellow circle, and then her partner takes off...

I'm supposed to do what? Carry the snake with one hand and in my mouth?!

Are you sure this is a good idea? Whose idea was this!

It's a timed contest - how many snakes can each couple get on the yellow circle within the time alottment?

Their turn over, the couple leaves while the crew gets ready for the next pair of contestants.

What this had to do with the Anasazi ruins is beyond me. And people wonder why I don't watch tv.
